Episode 1 recap: Glass Factory Tragedy Involves New Drug
In the first episode, on a late night in 1997, a dance hall is alive with energy as a group of young people dance and sweat. Suddenly, the music stops, and police captain Zheng Bei enters with his team, moving in stealthily. Unfortunately, their presence is detected by a drug user named Rat, triggering a fierce brawl.
Zheng Bei and his team manage to overpower the group and successfully apprehend them, quickly interrogating and transporting them back to the precinct. Meanwhile, in Halan City in Northeast China, two bald men and a young man are conspiring in a car near the train station. Chaos ensues, with one bald man nearly falling out of the window while the other engages in a deadly struggle with the young man, ultimately losing his life to a knife.
Just as Zheng Bei finishes handling his case, an emergency report comes in: a murder has occurred at the Halan Northeast Iron and Glass Factory. Upon arrival, the scene is chaotic, with blood everywhere and a suffocating smell of death in the air. Zheng Bei confirms it’s a brutal murder, and the killer has fled.
Far away in Huazhou City, Guangdong Province, police academy student Gu Yi Ran finds himself at a crossroads in life. His teacher hopes he will stay at the academy after graduation, but he hasn’t made up his mind. Then a family tragedy strikes: his sister, Xiaoxiao, is found dead at home, her body covered in needle marks, a clear sign of a drug overdose.
Gu Yi Ran learns from his father that Xiaoxiao had recently been close to a young man named Huang Jiahui, prompting him to report the incident to the police. The authorities act quickly and arrest Huang Jiahui. The homicide investigation team swiftly uncovers that the two victims were brothers working as security guards at the glass factory, with the older brother, Song Wu, stabbed multiple times, and the younger brother, Song Wen, having fallen from a building.
The person who reported the crime, Jiang Xiaohai, appears anxious during questioning, still shaken by the events. Meanwhile, Gu Yi Ran, determined to uncover the truth, provokes Huang Jiahui into attacking a police officer, buying himself more time for investigation.
As the inquiry progresses, police discover a large stash of methamphetamine at Huang Jiahui's residence, successfully dismantling a drug operation. Gu Yi Ran realizes that not being able to protect his family strengthens his resolve to combat drug crime. Zheng Bei promptly reports the case to his superiors, who take it seriously and decide to form a special task force, appointing Zheng Bei as its leader.
To bolster the task force, Zheng Bei recruits forensic expert Ding Guozhu and national sanda champion Zhang Xueyao, adding formidable strength to the team. However, a small hiccup occurs during the formation of the task force. Director Gao Linsheng initially plans to invite Professor Gu from the Huazhou Police Academy, but he is unavailable. Just when everyone thinks this is the end, Zheng Bei personally visits Huazhou and discovers that Professor Gu is actually the young Gu Yi Ran. Influenced by his sister's tragic death, Gu Yi Ran decides to stay at the academy and focus on researching new drugs.
His decision not only makes him a member of the task force but also brings new hope for solving the case. Through their collective efforts, the team begins to unravel the complex web of interests and drug trafficking behind the murders. Gu Yi Ran's keen observation skills and expertise play a crucial role in advancing the investigation.
Ultimately, the real culprit is uncovered and faces justice, while Gu Yi Ran experiences personal growth and transformation through this battle against drugs.
