Episode 12 recap: Zheng Nan in Danger, Rescued by Jiang Xiao Hai
In Episode 12, after being discharged from the hospital, Ah Sen bought some fruit and sincerely went to apologize to Wang Jianmin, hoping to earn his forgiveness. This unexpected gesture surprised and unsettled Wang Jianmin. During their conversation, Ah Sen mentioned "Sister Zi," which made Wang Jianmin tense up as he thought of his wife. He quickly used their wedding anniversary as a code to open a hidden space in his home, where he discovered a notebook documenting unusual raw material usage.
Recalling the former factory manager's mention of abnormal material losses, Wang Jianmin suddenly realized that these losses were not natural; someone was secretly stealing them for drug production.
Meanwhile, Zheng Bei learned that a group of thugs was forcing girls, including his sister Zheng Nan, to take drugs. Enraged, he rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, Zheng Nan had not been seriously harmed. At the crucial moment, Jiang Xiao Hai heroically intervened, rescuing Zheng Nan and teaching the thugs a harsh lesson, particularly their leader, Li Baogen.
Upon hearing the news, Zhao Xiaoguang rushed to the hospital, but was stopped by Zheng Bei and others. Seeing Zhao Xiaoguang in a panic, Zheng Bei jokingly exaggerated, saying Zheng Nan had just had her stomach pumped due to an overdose of ecstasy. This terrified Zhao Xiaoguang, who immediately confessed his feelings and promised to take care of Zheng Nan for life. Just then, Zheng Nan appeared with her medication, clearing up the misunderstanding and leaving Zhao Xiaoguang overjoyed.
Late at night, Zheng Bei went alone to the video hall where Li Baogen was. Hearing vulgar language from inside, he angrily confronted the group and even broke Li Baogen's arm. The next day, Director Gao Linsheng severely reprimanded Zheng Bei, demanding he focus on drug cases and not get involved in personal vendettas, punishing him with a 5,000-word self-criticism.
Seeing this, Gu Yiran offered to help him with the writing. Meanwhile, the special investigation team's work continued to deepen, with Qin Yi becoming a key target. On the surface, Qi Chao appeared to be a typical vegetable vendor, but he had close ties with Er Jin, handling the distribution of his goods. Zheng Bei meticulously planned, narrowing the investigation to three locations: a frequently visited restaurant, the Dongtie Market, and the Golden Phoenix Bathhouse.
Gu Yiran and Zhao Xiaoguang were in charge of the investigation at the frequently visited restaurant. Zhao Xiaoguang noticed the security guard was intently listening to a storytelling performance. Seizing the opportunity, the two snuck into the cellar where the sausages were stored and unexpectedly discovered a large stash of ecstasy pills. Just as they were about to leave, a car suddenly pulled up, accompanied by a fierce large dog.
Fortunately, Zhao Xiaoguang had prepared for this and successfully diverted the dog with the sausages. However, the noise they made while climbing over the wall still drew attention. Quick-thinking Gu Yiran doused herself and Zhao Xiaoguang with liquor from a bottle, pretending to be drunkenly arguing, which allowed them to escape unnoticed.
Back home, the smell of alcohol on Gu Yiran caught Zheng Bei's attention, prompting him to rush to take a shower. The next day, during a discussion about the case, Zhao Xiaoguang was distracted, his mind filled with thoughts of Zheng Nan. At lunch, Gu Yiran teased Zheng Bei, commenting on how Northeastern people are known for their straightforwardness, yet he seemed so shy when it came to relationships.
Xin Tie Gang then joined the conversation, mentioning that the public security system was soon to collaborate with the education system to hold a matchmaking event, urging Zheng Bei and Gu Yiran to resolve their personal issues quickly.
To thank Zhao Xiaoguang for his bravery in saving her, Zheng Nan invited him to watch "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils." Zhao Xiaoguang was overjoyed and prepared a new jacket as a gift. However, Zheng Nan politely declined his gesture. Looking at the character Qiao Feng on TV, she used his heroic image to imply her expectations of a partner, suggesting that Zhao Xiaoguang still needed to work on becoming the hero in her eyes.
Meanwhile, Zheng Bei was having dinner with Jiang Xiao Hai, trying to persuade him, under the influence of alcohol, to stay away from Qin Yi and not oppose him. He promised that as long as Jiang Xiao Hai was willing to turn over a new leaf, he would help him find a good job. However, upon hearing this, Jiang Xiao Hai's expression darkened, revealing a complex mix of emotions. He ultimately left the scene in silence, leaving Zheng Bei alone to ponder.
