Episode 27 recap: Zheng Bei Discovers Jiang Xiao Hai's Identity
In Episode 27, Lin Zhi Da is surprised to hear that Xiao Ma Ge wants to meet with them. He decides to take Lin Jiang and a group of his men to the meeting, only to find Jiang Ying Zi and Li Wen Long already waiting. Shortly after, dozens of tall, imposing bodyguards enter, followed by a young man in glasses who presents himself as Liang Jia Ju, the owner of an import-export company and the elusive drug lord known as “Xiao Ma Ge.”
Despite being about the same age as Lin Jiang, Liang possesses a powerful presence that leaves Lin Zhi Da and his son shocked to learn that Jiang Xiao Hai is Xiao Ma Ge's right-hand man. Liang has already been informed of Lin Zhi Da's activities and calls him in to discuss an incident that happened two days prior in a train car, using a combination of courtesy and intimidation to negotiate a partnership.
Jiang Xiao Hai throws a travel bag onto the conference table, revealing a gift for Lin Zhi Da—an entire package of “Snow Angel” methamphetamine. Lin Zhi Da had secretly withheld a small quantity of meth, hoping to leverage his connections to smuggle it out of town for profit, but his cleverness backfires.
Fortunately, Liang learns of this situation and decides on a minor punishment instead of a full confrontation. Throughout the meeting, Jiang Xiao Hai maintains a facade of innocence, deceiving Zheng Bei and the others, while in reality, he is deeply involved in drug trafficking. He is the mysterious figure behind the rain-soaked night and the one responsible for the murders of Qin Yi and Song Wen.
Upon returning to the Wan Huang Hotel, Lin Zhi Da and his son are still shaken. They discover explosives in an office drawer, clearly a serious warning from Liang. This incident leaves Lin Zhi Da terrified, causing him to comply willingly with Liang's demands, which pleases Liang greatly. Knowing that there are problems at Jiang Ying Zi's home, Liang instructs Jiang Xiao Hai to inform her that if the pressure becomes too much, she should take a break for a while.
Jiang Xiao Hai believes that Jiang Ying Zi can handle the situation and is not as fragile as they might think; otherwise, he wouldn’t have brought her into the fold two years ago. Therefore, Liang Jia Ju doesn’t question him further and trusts him completely, even revealing that a shipment of foreign firearms will be traded in two days.
The task force analyzes the reasons behind the train heist involving meth and eventually tracks down Liang Jia Ju’s import-export company through surveillance. They install listening devices in the company’s office, but Jiang Xiao Hai detects the bug and finds the transmitter hidden under a flower pot. Realizing that they can no longer delay, he concludes that it’s time to eliminate the task force, particularly the biggest threat, Zheng Bei.
Consequently, Jiang Xiao Hai personally crafts powerful explosives and deliberately calls Zheng Bei, falsely claiming that a weapon deal will take place tomorrow at a warehouse in the eastern suburbs. Although he feels a pang of reluctance, he doesn’t choose to back down and starts humming a song that Zheng Bei used to sing to him when they were children.
The next day, Jiang Xiao Hai brings the task force to the eastern suburb warehouse, where Zheng Bei is on-site coordinating the operation. They enter the warehouse, which is stocked with the powerful explosives. Meanwhile, Liang Jia Ju’s men are making a deal with foreigners at a different warehouse. As Jiang Xiao Hai calculates the timing for the explosives, he is shocked to find that Xin Tie Gang has already disarmed them, and even the foreign deal is intercepted by Lao Xiong and his team.
It turns out that Zheng Bei, upon discovering the listening device was removed, went to the rooftop to observe with binoculars. He unexpectedly sees Jiang Xiao Hai standing beside Liang Jia Ju, causing his heart to sink. Zheng Bei still holds out a glimmer of hope to persuade Jiang Xiao Hai to turn back, but Jiang Xiao Hai is already too deep in the game to escape. Ultimately, the two go their separate ways, drifting further apart.
Back at the task force, Zheng Bei takes a photo of himself and Jiang Xiao Hai from his wallet and tears it in half, pinning the part with Jiang Xiao Hai’s image to the bulletin board.
