Episode 8 recap: Jiang Xiaohai Orders an Attack on Lin Jiang

In Episode 8, Gu Yi Ran enthusiastically helps the Zheng elders clear the table after dinner when she suddenly notices something off with Shen Li and his crew next door. They start throwing hair into a pot, followed by breaking dishes and causing a scene in the restaurant, creating chaos. Fortunately, Gu Yi Ran reacts quickly, avoiding the flying debris and secretly guiding the elders and her sister into the kitchen, preventing any major incidents.

What’s even more impressive is that Gu Yi Ran had prepared in advance—she had hidden a few beer bottles in the pot. As the heat increased, the bottles exploded, catching Shen Li and his gang off guard and causing them significant injury.

Seeing the situation escalate, Shen Li, furious and red-faced, pulls out a gun, ready to confront Gu Yi Ran. Just then, Zheng Bei arrives in the nick of time, swiftly subduing the troublemaking drug dealers. Upon closer inspection, he realizes that Shen Li is one of the fugitives who had shot a police officer years ago. Zheng Bei feels a pang of guilt, thinking he has brought trouble to his family.

However, the elders and his sister are incredibly supportive, praising him for being a good cop and saying that catching bad guys is exactly what he should be doing. Zheng Mu comforts her son, saying it was all an accident and not to dwell on it. His sister chimes in, joking that thanks to Zheng Bei being a police officer, their home is practically a "model household for bravery," with so many banners they can hardly hang them all.

At that moment, Shen’s father approaches Zheng Bei, reminding him not to forget to check on Gu Yi Ran, who got hurt while protecting everyone. Although Zheng Bei casually remarks that men can handle a little injury, he still feels a pang of concern and gives Gu Yi Ran a large White Rabbit candy as a gesture.

The next morning, Gu Yi Ran shows up at the special investigation team, full of energy, while Zheng Bei arrives leisurely in a taxi. His colleague Xin Tie Gang jokes that Zheng Bei isn’t as diligent as Gu Yi Ran. Zheng Bei laughs it off, claiming he’s investigating a case involving taxi companies and that taking a cab is just part of the job.

At that moment, Gao Lin Sheng approaches to ask about the case's progress. He learns that they have linked the Yifeng taxi company to drug trafficking, particularly uncovering a secret location for transporting ecstasy, but they still haven’t found any leads on methamphetamine.

Gao Lin Sheng emphasizes that although Huazhou is far from Halan, it’s close to the border. The issue of new drugs must be taken seriously, and they need to nip it in the bud.

On the other side, Qin Yi successfully resolved the issue with Lan Jiguang and entrusted the business to Er Jin Ge. As for the taxi situation, he had other plans.

Soon after, Jiang Xiao Hai was released from the detention center, and his sister Jiang Ying Zi came to pick him up. Feeling guilty in front of Zheng Bei, Jiang Ying Zi recounted the family's experience of adopting Jiang Xiao Hai and expressed her regret over her brother’s lack of responsibility.

Zheng Bei could see that Jiang Xiao Hai had a kind nature but had endured too much hardship in his youth.

That evening, Lin Da and his men went to a food stall to buy a car from Hai Ge, only to find that Jiang Xiao Hai had set a trap, waiting for them to walk right into it. After a chaotic brawl, the police arrived just in time to control the situation.

Zheng Bei saw Jiang Xiao Hai sitting there innocently eating noodles and felt a surge of anger. He pointed to the sign behind him, revealing that the food stall was actually a branch of the Zheng family! Jiang Xiao Hai finally realized what was happening, quickly apologizing to the elders and assuring them he would take care of everything.

Instead of being angry, the elders laughed heartily, leaving Zheng Bei both amused and exasperated.

After dinner, Zheng Bei seriously told Jiang Xiao Hai not to think he was in the clear just because he didn’t get his hands dirty; inciting others to commit violence was also illegal. He intended to recruit Jiang Xiao Hai into his team, but Jiang Xiao Hai refused.

It turned out that Jiang Xiao Hai had nearly frozen to death in a bridge tunnel as a child, and it was Qin Yi who had saved his life. He cherished this debt of gratitude and would never betray Qin Yi.

When Jiang Xiao Hai returned home, he found his godfather Qin Yi waiting for him. Qin Yi sensed Jiang Xiao Hai’s thoughts and was grateful for his help in gathering information, pleased that Jiang Xiao Hai considered Zheng Bei a friend.

Listening to Qin Yi, Jiang Xiao Hai felt a mix of emotions but chose to remain silent.
