Episode 15 recap: Zhang Guimei Wants to Keep Yao Xiaoshan

In Episode 15, Zhang Guimei appoints Yao Xiaoshan as the head of the third-year class, but Yao insists on resigning from the girls' high school. He expresses his feelings with the phrase, "I once aimed for the bright moon, but the moon only shines on the ditch!" Zhang Guimei knows how much Yao has contributed to the school over the years and is determined not to let such a great teacher go. To prevent him from resigning, she avoids him and tells Chen Sihai that she needs time. She also arranges for Wei Tingyun to meet her the day after tomorrow. Chen Sihai suddenly asks Zhang Guimei if she has a severed palm, leaving her confused about how he knows.

That day, the physics lab equipment finally arrives at the school. Zhang Guimei asks Wei Tingyun to take Yao Xiaoshan to inspect the equipment and to persuade him to stay. When they arrive to move the equipment, Yao is thrilled to see all the teaching supplies he has always wanted. Wei Tingyun tells him that Zhang Guimei helped order everything, and as he revels in the joy, she asks if he still plans to leave. Yao hesitates, and Wei Tingyun warns him that if he goes, it means she misjudged him. Realizing her meaning, Yao smiles and mutters to himself, "She didn't misjudge me!" He then goes to find Zhang Guimei, who still tries to dodge him. Yao snatches the loudspeaker from her hands and loudly declares that he will not leave.

He then shares with Zhang Guimei that he learned about a physics exam paper used by top high schools in Kunming, which has been effective in improving student scores. Zhang Guimei immediately tells him to go get the paper. She works late into the night, and on her way home, she sees Gu Yu in the makeshift shelter, enduring mosquito bites while studying, which touches her heart.

Back at her place, Zhang Guimei talks to Fang Qiong about this. Fang Qiong knows that Zhang Guimei has a tough exterior but a soft heart, and that she has long wanted Gu Yu to return. Zhang Guimei mentions she is working on Gu Yu's school registration but needs one more stamp. Fang Qiong suggests asking Zhou Shanqiu for help. Zhang Guimei feels embarrassed, saying that ever since their last fight, Zhou has not been answering her calls. Fang Qiong advises her to visit him with a gift, acknowledging that without the support of Mayor Ma and Director Zhou over the years, she wouldn’t have been able to persevere.

The next day, Zhang Guimei brings a bundle of sugarcane to the county government. When Mayor Ma and Zhou Shanqiu see her, they wonder if she has another issue to discuss. Zhang Guimei invites them to a restaurant and, while waiting for their food, personally peels the sugarcane for them. She sincerely thanks them for their continued support, and when she mentions Gu Yu's registration, both leaders express their support for her to return to school.

Gu Yu achieves an impressive score of 513 in the recent mock exam and rushes to find Zhang Guimei, asking her to fulfill her promise. Zhang Guimei, maintaining a stern face, hands her the completed documents, moving Gu Yu to tears. Zhang Guimei reminds her that this is just the beginning and that she must continue to work hard. Gu Yu hugs her tightly.

Back in the dormitory, the other students have already prepared Gu Yu's bed. In the middle of the night, seeing Cai Guizhi studying late, Gu Yu challenges her. In class, Ding Xiaoxiao finds a lipstick on the floor, and no one claims it. The students speculate that someone must be in a secret relationship. Zhang Guimei comes in to inform them that it's Liu Xiying, the lowest-performing student, who is secretly dating Yuan Shuai from the neighboring school. She advises them not to openly oppose their relationship to avoid rebellion.

Following Zhang Guimei's plan, the girls are tasked with keeping an eye on Liu Xiying to prevent her from meeting Yuan Shuai. When Yuan Shuai can't wait any longer and climbs over the wall to see her, Zhang Guimei is already waiting for him. Noting his determination to be with Liu Xiying, she suggests he work during the winter break to earn money to support her and their future child.

As the holiday approaches, Zhang Guimei arranges for Chen Sihai's wife to take him home for the New Year and hands over his bonus and certificate to her. The couple gratefully bows to Zhang Guimei.
