Episode 23 recap: Zhang Guimei's Devotion to Her Students

In Episode 23, Xin Xin's mother is sentenced to life imprisonment and sent to the Second Prison of Yunnan Province. Overwhelmed with emotion, she attempts suicide multiple times. Out of concern, the prison authorities reach out to Teacher Zhang Guimei, hoping she can visit and provide comfort through familial support. Aware of the gravity of this task, Zhang gently informs Xin Xin and accompanies her to the prison.

When Xin Xin sees her mother, she bursts into tears. She shows her mother her college entrance exam application and excellent report card, firmly expressing her desire to make her mother proud and pleading with her to cherish her life, so she won't be left alone. To celebrate her mother's birthday, Xin Xin buys a small cake with her saved allowance, and the mother-daughter duo spends a meaningful day together in prison.
