Episode 2 recap: Jiang Ci Pretends to be Drunk to Escape
In Episode 2, after Cu Liang's tireless care and the miraculous powers of the Millennium Snow Toad Pill, Jiang Ci finally escapes danger, prompting Pei Yan to send Cu Liang home to rest.Jiang Ci hails from Jiangjia Village in the Daliang Kingdom and is very close to her master. Her master once traveled to the Moonfall region and tasted an unforgettable bowl of non-bitter porridge. Inspired, Jiang Ci has been trying for ages to recreate that taste but has failed to replicate it. Ten days ago, when her master returned, Jiang Ci eagerly presented her carefully made porridge, only for her master to frown and declare it was not right.
Determined, Jiang Ci vowed to allow her master to taste that cherished porridge again on his birthday. One day, sensing something unusual outside, her master found an excuse to send Jiang Ci away. When she returned, her master was peacefully asleep. Deep down, Jiang Ci harbored a dream of traveling the world and tasting various foods, but her master was always worried about her safety and refused to let her go far.
While her master slept, Jiang Ci couldn't suppress her longing and quietly descended the mountain. She wanted to witness the grand peace negotiations between the Daliang Kingdom and Wei Kingdom and collect some spirit flowers as mementos. Upon arriving at the Fragrant Forest Garden, she was taken aback by the heavy security. On a whim, she hid her belongings under a large tree and unexpectedly found a letter from her master.
In the letter, her master had already anticipated her secret descent, filled with reminders and reluctance. Jiang Ci carefully tucked the letter away and bravely jumped into the river, swimming into the Fragrant Forest Garden.
When Jiang Ci awoke, her mind replayed the harrowing moment when the Silver-Masked Man attacked her, filling her with fear. Pei Yan had been by her side, personally feeding her medicine. Remembering her master's warnings from the letter, Jiang Ci hesitated to take the medicine. It wasn't until Pei Yan tasted it first that she felt reassured enough to drink it. From the maid, Shu Xia, she learned that the medicine was the Millennium Snow Toad Pill, known for its effectiveness on the battlefield, filling Jiang Ci with gratitude for Pei Yan.
Pei Yan asked about the appearance of the assassin, but fearing retaliation from the Silver-Masked Man, Jiang Ci pretended not to know. Pei Yan recognized her apprehension but did not press her further, instructing Cu Liang to continue her recovery and asking Shu Xia to take good care of her. Over time, Jiang Ci's health improved, allowing her to enjoy a life of luxury and ease.
Meanwhile, Wei Zhao learned that Jiang Ci had been saved by Pei Yan and grew anxious about her potential to expose secrets. His carefully planned scheme was at risk due to Elder Liu from the Shadow Pavilion attempting to return the corpse of his deceased brother to Moonfall. Ultimately, to protect the larger plan, Wei Zhao decided to burn the body and destroy the evidence.
Wei Zhao secretly monitored Jiang Ci's every move and noticed her desire to escape. Using the pretense of flying a kite, Jiang Ci intentionally broke the string, looking for an opportunity to flee, but abandoned her plan upon seeing the tight security. One day, she accidentally caught a glimpse of Wei Zhao up in a tree, nearly falling in fright. Fortunately, Pei Yan saved her just in time.
Jiang Ci pleaded for Shu Xia's leniency, sparing her from punishment, yet she understood Pei Yan's intentions—she could not truly escape as long as the Silver-Masked Man was still at large. Pei Yan suggested accompanying Jiang Ci for a leisurely outing, but she politely declined. Instead, he invited Cu Liang to join him in hosting a banquet at the Lan Yue Tower.
Jiang Ci appeared to agree, but secretly plotted how to use the pond to escape. At the banquet, she pretended to drink heavily, boldly discussing the nuances of eating crabs, which drew laughter from the crowd. As the night grew quiet, Jiang Ci feigned drunkenness and used Su Yan’s arrangement to "escape" to her room; in reality, she merely tossed a vase into the river to create a diversion while hiding under the bed.
Once the guests dispersed, she quietly slipped away, only to find a kite left behind earlier in the bushes, sensing that the Silver-Masked Man was nearby. Sure enough, Wei Zhao confronted her, sending her into a panic as a new crisis loomed.
