Episode 3 recap: Pei Yan Steals the Elixir to Save Jiang Ci and the Prince
In Episode 3, Jiang Ci pretends to be drunk to create a diversion, throwing a vase into the river to simulate a suicide attempt. Under the cover of darkness, she secretly escapes from the bed in the Lanyue Tower. However, she is intercepted by Wei Zhao, who threatens her with a dagger, demanding to know if she has revealed his secrets.
Jiang Ci vehemently denies his accusations, but Wei Zhao remains skeptical and hangs her from a tree for intense questioning. Meanwhile, Pei Yan watches the entire scene unfold but chooses not to intervene, planning to use Jiang Ci to draw out the real assassin. As expected, a silver-masked figure appears and kidnaps Jiang Ci. Although Pei Yan is too far away to hear their conversation, he immediately sends for reinforcements.
Furious at Wei Zhao's brutality, Jiang Ci lashes out at him, prompting Wei Zhao to consider killing her. Just as he demands that she write a farewell letter, Pei Yan arrives in the nick of time to rescue her. A fierce battle ensues between Pei Yan and Wei Zhao, during which Wei Zhao manages to escape.
Afterward, Pei Yan tends to Jiang Ci's wounds. Worried about further retaliation, she suggests seeking refuge at the Marquis's residence, and Pei Yan agrees. However, Jiang Ci is filled with doubts; the silver-masked figure could have killed her directly but chose a more complicated method, which raises her suspicions.
Pei Yan suddenly realizes that the true target of the silver-masked figure might be Teng Rui. The Crown Prince Xie Chi had mentioned that Teng Rui was with Prince Xie Yu, leading Pei Yan to suspect that the silver-masked figure was attempting to lure him away to assassinate Teng Rui. Pei Yan quickly takes Jiang Ci to the Yigong Shrine, where they discover that Wei Zhao has already set a trap.
After a fierce struggle, Pei Yan saves Teng Rui, while Wei Zhao retreats with his clan.
Meanwhile, the enmity between the Daliang Kingdom and the Moonfall City comes to light. The Qi Prince mysteriously dies while negotiating peace in Moonfall City, prompting Daliang to seek vengeance. Although the Lord of Moonfall City, Xiao Haitian, tries to prove his innocence, he cannot escape disaster; his entire family perishes, leaving only his two children to escape under Lady Xiao's guidance.
Xiao Wuxia, the former young master of Moonfall City, adopts the name Wei Zhao and has bided his time for years to uncover the truth behind the Qi Prince's death and avenge his family. He infiltrates the Daliang Kingdom, showcasing his intelligence and bravery within the Ministry of Illumination, while secretly forming the Shadow Pavilion.
Jiang Ci's condition worsens due to the poison from Wei Zhao's dagger, prompting Pei Yan to search for a cure. He learns that only the mythical Crane Grass from Miaojing can detoxify her. However, the Crane Grass has been destroyed by Emperor Xie Che of Daliang, leaving a single Heartguard Pill as the key to saving Jiang Ci. Pei Yan and Prince Xie Yu fiercely compete for this last Heartguard Pill, while Wei Zhao plots in the shadows, aiming to seize the pill through the prince to thwart Pei Yan’s efforts to save Jiang Ci.
Amidst this tangled web of power and revenge, Jiang Ci's fate hangs precariously in the balance. Will she escape Wei Zhao's pursuit under Pei Yan's protection? And how will Wei Zhao's path of vengeance unfold? Everything remains uncertain and full of twists.
