Episode 33 recap: Rong Yu Die Uses Yan Qiao Shuang to Confront Xie Che
In Episode 33, tomorrow marks the wedding day of Pei Yan and Jiang Ci, and the atmosphere at the Jian Ding Marquis's residence is filled with excitement. Pei Yan eagerly prepares for the day, hoping to marry Jiang Ci as soon as possible. However, the bride, Jiang Ci, is consumed by anxiety; she longs to escape this marriage, but the palace guards are as unyielding as a fortress, leaving her with no options.
She considers seeking help from her friend Wei Zhao but fears it might put him in danger. Just then, Dong Juan arrives to offer her congratulations. Upon learning of Jiang Ci's true feelings, she resolutely decides to assist in her escape.
Meanwhile, Rong Yu Die and Wei Zhao plot to overthrow Emperor Xie Che on the wedding day. They carefully craft their plan, disguising Yan Qiao Shuang to infiltrate the wedding procession and arranging for an inside contact in the palace to assist her. Their intention is to use the sword in Yan Qiao Shuang's possession as the critical strike. Rong Yu Die hides the sword within the wedding gifts. Although they agree to collaborate, their goals diverge: Rong Yu Die aims to topple Xie Che, while Yan Qiao Shuang is determined to kill him to avenge her sister, Yan Shu Wan, and Xie Chun.
On the day of the wedding, Jiang Ci dons a magnificent wedding gown. Following the plan, Dong Juan disguises her as a palace maid and quietly leads her out of the palace. Along the way, Jiang Ci unexpectedly spots Yan Qiao Shuang and worries for her safety. She wants to turn back but realizes they have already passed the palace gates. Yan Qiao Shuang successfully enters the side hall, retrieves the sword, and prepares to act, unaware that Rong Yu Die has secretly swapped the sword and coated it with poison.
During the wedding ceremony, Xie Che presides over the event with a solemn atmosphere. Pei Yan anxiously awaits the arrival of the bride, when suddenly Wei Zhao bursts in, claiming that there are assassins in the palace. Xie Che, already aware of the situation, feigns calmness. Rong Yu Die then appears, accusing Xie Che of being responsible for Pei Zi Jing's death and revealing Yan Qiao Shuang's intention to assassinate him.
A fierce battle ensues between Yan Qiao Shuang and the Bright Division, leading to the sword breaking and Yan Qiao Shuang succumbing to the poison before she can reveal the truth.
When Jiang Ci arrives, she finds Yan Qiao Shuang lying in a pool of blood, heartbroken. Xie Che orders the execution of Rong Yu Die, and Pei Yan kneels to beg for mercy, but her pleas are in vain. Jiang Ci, overwhelmed by shock, faints and dreams of reuniting with her master, Yan Qiao Shuang. When she awakens, she realizes it was an illusion, leaving her in deep sorrow.
Wei Zhao weakly brings Jiang Ci back to the palace, while Pei Yan continues to plead for Xie Che to spare her mother. In the dead of night, Xie Che confronts Rong Yu Die in her cell; their once deep feelings have turned into hatred. Rong Yu Die angrily accuses Xie Che of betrayal for the throne, while Xie Che admits that he spared her life out of lingering affection. Ultimately, Xie Che decides not to execute Rong Yu Die but sentences her to spend the rest of her life in the Quiet Meditation Temple, copying scriptures as penance.
This tale of love and hatred ends in tragedy. The relationship between Rong Yu Die and Xie Che shifts from deep affection to irreconcilable enmity, evoking deep sadness. After all these events, Jiang Ci is left with not only a profound longing for her master but also an endless sense of confusion and fear about the future.
