Episode 37 recap: Jiang Ci Moves the Moon to Rescue Wei Zhao
In this episode, Pei Yan passionately advocates for Wei Zhao in front of Xie Che, seeking a chance for him to redeem himself. Ultimately, he persuades Xie Che to allow him and Wei Zhao to lead the army against Wei Guo. Yi Fei is tasked with bringing the battered Wei Zhao back from the palace. On the way, they pass the Lan Yue Tower, where Yi Fei advises Wei Zhao to say goodbye to Jiang Ci to avoid putting her in danger.
Wei Zhao and Pei Yan agree that once they leave Qingkang with the army, Pei Yan will arrange for Jiang Ci to be safely escorted away. Meanwhile, Cui Liang decides to accompany Pei Yan into battle. When Dong Juan learns of this, she quietly prepares ink for him in the study.
Cui Liang gifts Dong Juan a painting of a "paradise on earth," symbolizing beauty while concealing their sorrow of parting. Although Dong Juan has already pledged herself to Cui Liang, she cannot help but urge him to let go as he prepares to leave. In a heartfelt farewell, he gives her a book and a small paper dragonfly he has kept, and they part with tears, cherishing their unfulfilled feelings for each other.
As Dong Juan flips through the book, she is surprised to find familiar handwriting. The two lines of poetry that once captured her attention in the garden of the Jian Ding Hou residence were actually written by Cui Liang. Coincidentally, the small paper dragonfly in her pouch is the one Cui Liang picked up after she carelessly tossed it aside by the lake. This realization deepens her sense of connection to him, even as they have missed their chance together.
At the same time, Jiang Ci prepares to leave, and Su Yan comes to see her off, delivering Wei Zhao's belongings. It is then that Jiang Ci learns about the deep bond between Su Yan, her mother Yan Shuwan, and her aunt Yan Qiao Shuang, filling her with gratitude. Before departing, Jiang Ci visits Yan Qiao Shuang's grave to pay her respects.
Xie Che officially appoints Pei Yan as the Grand Commander of the central army, tasking him and General Yue Jinglong with reclaiming the lost northern territories, while Wei Zhao is named the vanguard cavalry leader. On the day of departure, Xie Che personally sees them off, expressing high hopes for their success. Wei Zhao, Yue Jinglong, and Pei Yan lead their troops on the journey, while Jiang Ci disguises herself as a soldier to follow them quietly.
After the army sets up camp, Wei Zhao worries about Jiang Ci. To his surprise, she suddenly appears, and they embrace passionately, deciding to start anew together.
However, with the situation urgent, Lu Yu betrays his allegiance and joins Wei Guo, leading an army to invade Liangzhou. Wei Zhao takes the initiative to request the mission to reclaim Zhuzhou, while Yue Jinglong arranges for Pei Yan to support Liangzhou, coordinating efforts with Wei Zhao from within.
During the battle, Wei Zhao is injured, and Cui Liang diagnoses him with a slow-acting lethal poison—Bing Po Dan. He promises to devote himself to developing an antidote and urges Wei Zhao to keep this matter a secret to avoid distracting Jiang Ci. Although Jiang Ci joins the army, Pei Yan remains concerned and repeatedly reminds her, promising to meet again in Liangzhou.
Wei Zhao and Yue Jinglong lead their forces closer to Zhuzhou. Faced with the defenders' tight defenses, Wei Zhao decides to launch a surprise attack from the city's weak western flank. He personally leads the vanguard into the fray and successfully breaches the city, but they are soon surrounded by Wei Guo's heavy troops, suffering severe casualties. At a critical moment, however, Yue Jinglong remains inactive, having already received secret orders from Xie Che, intending for Wei Zhao to die on the battlefield.
Waiting for reinforcements that do not arrive, Jiang Ci worries for Wei Zhao's safety and resolutely decides to seek help from Yue Luo City. Along the way, she faces numerous challenges but ultimately secures the assistance of Hong Jie and the soldiers of Yue Luo. Meanwhile, Wei Zhao, with Yi Fei's help, engages in a desperate fight against Wei Guo's soldiers. Finally, they are joined by Jiang Ci and the reinforcements, together defeating the enemy and reclaiming Zhuzhou.
Teng Rui and Lei Zhen flee in defeat, but Wei Zhao relentlessly pursues them, ultimately capturing Teng Rui and executing him on the spot, avenging the innocent civilians. Soon after, Yue Jinglong leads the army to occupy Zhuzhou City, and everything settles down. Jiang Ci and Wei Zhao reunite, embracing tightly; their bond is now even stronger after surviving life-and-death trials together.
