Episode 1 recap: Zhao Kai's Decision to Resign and Manage a Delivery Logistics Company
In Episode 1, we meet Zhao Kai, an entrepreneur from Hong Kong who founded Generation Logistics, once a billion-dollar industry star. However, he withdrew from the stock market for personal reasons. A year later, in a remarkable turn of events, the company made a comeback on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, once again attracting market attention and admiration.
In 2021, Zhao Kai made a bold decision—generously granting 20% of the company's shares to all employees. Despite his assistant's concerns and reminders to reconsider, Zhao Kai was confident that this move wouldn’t undermine the company's foundation and that he still held the reins of decision-making. Just as the announcement was about to be made, shareholder Xu Dao Ming publicly opposed the idea. Undeterred, Zhao Kai proposed an impressive delivery challenge to demonstrate the company's strength: a ballpoint pen from his desk must be delivered to Emma in Harbin that very night.
With time running out, Zhao Kai's confidence and determination were palpable as he set the challenge from 4 PM to midnight. The assistant took on the task, and the entire company sprang into action, ensuring that every detail was meticulously coordinated. However, fate intervened when a sudden snowstorm grounded flights in the evening, putting the delivery at risk.
In a state of panic, the assistant reported the situation to Zhao Kai. Meanwhile, Zhao Kai's ex-wife, Song Qiao—a renowned radio host—was urged by their mutual friend, Xing Wen Hao, to persuade Zhao Kai to reconsider. Yet, knowing Zhao Kai's steadfast nature, she realized that once he made up his mind, it was nearly impossible to change it. Since the decision was also legal and compliant, she reluctantly abandoned her efforts to convince him.
Flashback to 2010: Zhao Kai boldly resigned from his high-paying job, determined to dive into the logistics industry and start his own company. This decision not only strained his marriage with Song Qiao but also set him on a different path from his old friend, Xing Wen Hao. Although Xing Wen Hao was skeptical of the logistics field, he unexpectedly handed Generation Logistics over to Zhao Kai, complicating their friendship further.
Years later, as Zhao Kai's business flourished, Song Qiao asked in an interview about any regrets he had on his entrepreneurial journey. Zhao Kai responded calmly, as if all past grievances had faded away.
One day, while heading to a meeting, Zhao Kai crossed paths with Fang Fang, a young woman from Haitang Town who dreamed of becoming a franchisee of Generation Logistics but was struggling due to financial constraints. Moved by her sincerity, Zhao Kai decided to lend her money personally and encouraged her to build a good reputation through quality service. That night, he even went the extra mile by chartering a plane to ensure a batch of urgent deliveries arrived on time, showcasing his unwavering commitment to reliability.
