Episode 16 recap: The Rivalry Arises
In Episode 16, Xu Dao Ming makes a strong effort to prevent Zhao Kai from distributing shares to employees. To prove that his decision is sound, Zhao Kai picks up a pen from his desk and tells Xu Dao Ming that normally, it would take until the next day for the pen to arrive in Harbin. However, he will attempt to get it there before midnight. Xu Dao Ming thinks this is impossible due to the icy weather and unstable conditions; getting it there on time is already difficult enough, let alone cutting the delivery time in half.
Surprisingly, colleagues in Harbin do receive the pen that Zhao Kai sent that same day. Xu Dao Ming learns that part of the delivery route—80 kilometers—was blocked due to frozen roads, leaving him puzzled about how the delivery was made at all. Xu Dao Ming has always believed that the value of employees is negligible, but he didn't anticipate that the local courier, upon receiving a call from the headquarters and realizing it was from Mr. Zhao Kai, would vow to deliver the precious package at all costs. When the courier's vehicle broke down halfway, he ran on foot to ensure the delivery.
At the board meeting, Zhao Kai announces his decision. Although many shareholders oppose it, the shares he plans to distribute are privately owned, and this cannot be contested. Xu Dao Ming and Xing Wen Hao have some rapport, so he discreetly informs Xing Wen Hao that he advised Song Qiao to delay announcing this to the media until an hour after Zhao Kai's board meeting.
This means if Xing Wen Hao wants to sell his shares, he must act within that hour. As an experienced investor, he believes that stocks will plummet following the announcement, so he calls his son to sell everything. However, Xing Wen Hao miscalculates; by that evening, the stock not only fails to drop but actually rises by three yuan, resulting in a loss of over ten million for him.
Meanwhile, employees at the logistics company are thrilled to hear that Zhao Kai has decided to distribute shares to them, with each person gaining an extra 30,000 yuan in stock, a windfall they never expected. Zhao Kai revels in the joy of sharing but remains unaware of the impending crisis. Although the stock did experience a dip, it ultimately rose due to Zhao Kai's ex-girlfriend, Ding Ning, making significant stock purchases in the U.S.
Ding Ning, once Zhao Kai's girlfriend and a close friend of Song Qiao, has her own ambitions. For various reasons, Zhao Kai ended up marrying Song Qiao, who is now divorced, leaving Ding Ning with ulterior motives and a competitive spirit. After Song Qiao discreetly investigates the stock purchases and discovers they were made by Ding Ning, she immediately calls Zhao Kai, informing him that Ding Ning will soon arrive in Hong Kong. Although Zhao Kai senses that Ding Ning's intentions may not be benign, he feels secure due to his substantial stock holdings.
