Episode 8 recap: Han Su and Qu Yipeng Break Up
In Episode 8, He Zhinan finishes work and finds Qu Yipeng waiting for him. She asks why he didn't call her. Qu Yipeng replies he wanted to see if she was with someone else, and He Zhinan assures her that her ex-boyfriend has long since left. Qu Yipeng suggests not to mention him anymore, and they hold hands as they walk home together. Qu Yipeng asks when He Zhinan will introduce her to his friends, and he agrees to take her.
Once home, Qu Yipeng cooks for He Zhinan. When her phone rings, she doesn’t hear it, so He Zhinan answers. It’s Han Su on the line, asking Qu Yipeng for a verification code for her Youku membership, which she had registered with his phone number. After a moment of silence, Han Su tells Qu Yipeng to stop joking around; she finally has a day off and wants to binge-watch a show.
He Zhinan is taken aback by Han Su's voice and asks if she’s looking for Qu Yipeng. Hearing a woman’s voice, Han Su inquires who she is, and He Zhinan introduces herself as Qu Yipeng's friend. Han Su claims to be his girlfriend, and He Zhinan replies that she knows her. When Han Su asks what kind of friend she is, He Zhinan says it's not convenient to explain. She promises to pass the message to Qu Yipeng and hangs up. He Zhinan then deletes the verification text and the call log before casually returning to the kitchen.
Qu Yipeng's phone rings again; this time, it’s Han Su’s mother. He Zhinan overhears their conversation and quietly wipes away her tears. Han Su continues to call Qu Yipeng, but he doesn’t answer any of her calls. Upset, she feels nauseous and, after taking some medicine, lies in bed while trying to call him again, but still no answer. Disappointed, she lies back down.
At dinner, He Zhinan asks Qu Yipeng why he hasn’t answered his phone. He claims it was a work call. He Zhinan reveals that she overheard him talking and even heard Han Su’s name. Qu Yipeng explains that Han Su is his ex-girlfriend, beginning to manipulate He Zhinan emotionally. He tells her that everyone has a past, and she still sees her ex-boyfriend too. Qu Yipeng insists they’re all emotional beings, and if they value their past relationships, it shows they care deeply.
He advises He Zhinan not to bring them up anymore, and she nods in agreement. The next morning, Qu Yipeng receives a call from Han Su, who immediately suggests they break up. He agrees, stating that Han Su doesn’t really care for him and knows she’s ambitious. He feels unworthy of her.
Qu Yipeng tells Han Su that her trip to Hong Kong was essentially to end things, and she doesn’t want to discuss it further. She suggests they part amicably and plans to return next week to collect her things. Qu Yipeng offers to make her favorite sweet and sour ribs. When Han Su asks if he will change her contact name to reflect their breakup, he pauses and decides not to change it.
Meanwhile, Zhou Bin calls Sun Hanhang for a favor. His friend has some furniture near her office and asks her to help collect it. When Sun Hanhang arrives, she is captivated by the luxurious house, especially since it’s close to her workplace. Shortly after, Zhou Bin appears and reveals that it’s his property, which has been vacant. He offers to rent it to her at a discounted rate, and they start to get cozy in the new place.
Zeng Cheng visits Hong Kong to see Han Su and questions her about renting a place at such a high price just to see Sun Xu. Han Su admits she has seen him but hasn’t reacted as she expected. Everything she has done is to stand in front of Sun Xu and tell him she is his daughter. Meanwhile, He Zhinan visits Sun Hanhang’s new home and asks if Zhou Bin still meets his ex-wife. Sun Hanhang responds that he might.
