Episode 16 recap: Celebrating Qu Zheng's Birthday with a Million
In Episode 16, everyone outside the Listening to the Qin Courtyard is called back by the Ninefold Mysterious Palace. Song Jian Shan mentions that they can relax a bit now, but Qu Zheng warns that they might have discovered something, especially since he has been with a Million all this time. He thinks that the only way to secure his position is to marry a Million; only then can she truly be the Mistress of Listening to the Qin Courtyard, and no one would dare to trouble her again. He instructs Song Jian Shan to start preparing for the wedding. Before leaving, Song Jian Shan reveals that he accidentally mentioned Qu Zheng's birthday to a Million, who is likely very busy now. Qu Zheng realizes that Song Jian Shan didn’t do it by accident, but he feels that it might actually be a good thing!
Meanwhile, a Million is chatting with Jin Mu Qiu and Su Zhuo Zhuo. She brings up Qu Zheng's upcoming birthday and shares an idea that excites both Jin Mu Qiu and Su Zhuo Zhuo. While Qu Zheng and Song Jian Shan are discussing wedding preparations, a Million suddenly arrives. Luckily, Song Jian Shan is quick-witted. A Million tells Qu Zheng that she wants to visit a temple fair the next day, and Qu Zheng eagerly agrees.
At the same time, Qing Yun quietly approaches the Listening to the Qin Courtyard, where they are hiding out in the biggest grain store. When they hear about the wedding preparations, Qing Yun loses control and kills one of the attendants! A Million takes Qu Zheng to the temple fair, where she plans to surprise him by covering his eyes and leading him to a special reveal, unaware that Qing Yun's people are secretly watching them.
Feeling regretful about not being by Qu Zheng's side for the past twenty-four years, a Million prepares gifts for him from his first year to the present. Qu Zheng is deeply touched. However, a Million suddenly remembers a missing gift and decides to go pick it up herself. Despite Qu Zheng sending someone to follow her, she is captured by Qing Yun's people! Jin Mu Qiu and Su Zhuo Zhuo are playfully teasing Song Jian Shan when the person sent to protect a Million returns with bad news, causing everyone to worry. Jin Mu Qiu encounters Yu Lin Feng, and Qu Zheng's people trace the capture to Wanlan Town. Qu Zheng has already set off, and Jin Mu Qiu insists on going after a Million. Lin Feng, however, wants her to return to Taoyuan Valley with him. Jin Mu Qiu brushes him off, knowing that Lin Feng is aware of her feelings for a Million, so he silently follows her.
A Million refuses to go with Qing Yun, who claims that Qu Zheng is the real mastermind behind everything and that he is the one behind the Puyuan True Sutra, orchestrating all of it from the shadows. A Million doesn’t believe him, but Qing Yun insists on taking her to a certain location. Upon arrival, a Million stubbornly gets out of the car, where Xiao Cui has already been arranged by Qing Yun. Xiao Cui tells a Million that it was Qu Zheng who saved her and recalls how the cruel Xie Lao Liu bullied her until Qu Zheng intervened, forcing Xie Lao Liu to take the Puyuan True Sutra to the Jin Family Escort Agency and then silencing him!
Still, a Million refuses to believe it, suspecting that Xiao Cui might be sent by Qing Yun. She decides to return and hear the truth directly from Qu Zheng. Just then, Qu Zheng appears, and Qing Yun is no match for him. Qu Zheng prepares to take a Million away, but she asks if he really is the mastermind. Qu Zheng remains silent, and a Million’s heart sinks, feeling betrayed. Angry and hurt, she refuses to go with him. In a desperate move to ensure her safety, Qu Zheng knocks her out, determined to protect her at all costs!
