Episode 1 recap: Cheng Hanyue and Wang Ruijie Join the SWAT Team
In the first episode, Cheng Hanyue is waiting at a bus stop when a robbery occurs nearby, and a woman's bag is snatched. Without hesitation, she chases after the thief. Coincidentally, Peng Yingxiang is also in the area; he rushes in from another direction, wielding a coconut, and knocks the two robbers down.
Someone quickly calls the police, and when they arrive, Peng Yingxiang introduces himself as a concerned citizen. Cheng Hanyue catches up, panting and suspicious, wondering if Peng Yingxiang is actually in cahoots with the robbers. However, the police confirm that he is indeed a good Samaritan.
Later, Cheng Hanyue reports to the SWAT team's Lightning Strike Unit and is surprised to run into Peng Yingxiang again. He reveals that he is the captain of the unit. Excited at the prospect of joining, Cheng Hanyue hopes to be accepted, but Peng Yingxiang turns her down, stating that she must go through the proper evaluations.
Feeling defiant, Cheng Hanyue insists she hasn’t had a chance to prove herself and challenges him to a training match. Peng Yingxiang patiently explains that team members are specifically selected; they are either top graduates from police academies or former special forces soldiers, all highly skilled. To join, one must have exceptional abilities.
He supports gender equality but opposes any form of favoritism. Just then, the unit commander calls for Peng Yingxiang, informing him that his psychological evaluation report is still pending and he needs to continue his recovery. Taking the opportunity, Peng Yingxiang mentions the establishment of a women's special operations group that the higher-ups are considering, with Cheng Hanyue as the first candidate and 31 other trainee female officers awaiting selection, ultimately only six will remain. This news weighs heavily on him.
Meanwhile, the captain of the Lightning Strike Unit, Yan Jun, picks up new recruit Wang Ruijie at the airport, who brings her police dog, Pafei. Upon arriving at the unit, they receive an urgent call about a suspected drug user who has taken his family hostage due to hallucinations.
Yan Jun intends to handle the situation himself but, considering the traffic, decides to keep Wang Ruijie on the periphery while he assesses the situation. However, when Wang Ruijie hears that other team members are stuck in traffic, she jumps into action, scaling a wall to enter the scene with Pafei.
Inside the house, she finds the situation dire—the suspect is emotionally unstable and his family is terrified. Wang Ruijie cleverly distracts the suspect, allowing other team members to rescue the hostages. Just as the suspect attempts to ignite something, Wang Ruijie bravely rushes forward to intervene, but she is thrown out of a window and injured by shrapnel.
Yan Jun quickly takes her to the hospital, where the proximity of her wound to a nerve prevents her from receiving anesthesia. In pain, Wang Ruijie bites down on Yan Jun's hand to endure the suffering.
After her recovery, Wang Ruijie returns to the team, where the commander informs her that more female special officers will be joining this year, all of whom will be trained by the first unit. Yan Jun is tasked with showing her to her dormitory and reminds her to change her dressings regularly to prevent infection.
In the dorm, Wang Ruijie meets Cheng Hanyue, and they quickly hit it off, enjoying a lively conversation. Later, they seek out Peng Yingxiang, but he seems preoccupied and less welcoming. The root of his concern lies in his psychological evaluation report—he witnessed the death of his partner, an exceptional female officer, right in front of him. As he observes the new female recruits, he feels torn between wanting to impart his knowledge and fearing that his emotional state might affect their training.
Fortunately, Dr. Qi ultimately agrees to his request but stipulates that he can only participate in training and not in actual missions.
