Episode 23 recap: Bai Lang Plans to Poison the Water Plant
In Episode 23, Xu Yu Hui expresses concern about a man's condition, and the informant quietly assures her that he only has a mild cold and is not in serious trouble. Ba Te Er then opens a box for inspection, finding it filled with ordinary documents, confirming nothing is amiss. After verifying this, Ba Te Er and his team leave and arrange for snipers to gather at the foot of the mountain.
The informant appears very regretful and repeatedly apologizes.
On the way, an unexpected situation arises as a group of unidentified attackers launches an assault. Ba Te Er and his team have just gotten out of their vehicle and haven't had a chance to retaliate when they are overwhelmed by enemy fire, resulting in several injuries. During their descent, the snipers unfortunately trigger a preset trap and are also hit. In a desperate situation, Ba Te Er calls for backup as they find themselves nearly trapped.
Despite their fierce counterattack, Ba Te Er is unfortunately shot.
When Peng Ying Xiang and the others arrive, the scene is deserted. He Yu Yang follows desperately, heartbroken. Peng Ying Xiang intends to leave, and Cheng Han Yue asks where he is going. He reveals he plans to consult superiors about whether such sacrifices should continue.
Upon returning, the old man disperses the group for a private conversation, promising to provide answers. He assures them that as long as he receives no new orders from above, he will remain in command. With a heavy heart, Peng Ying Xiang leaves silently.
They later find the informant in an attempt to track down the perpetrators. The informant is terrified and insists he did not kill anyone.
After the mission, the group discovers they have been secretly photographed.
At the memorial service, Ba Te Er's family is devastated, embracing He Yu Yang in tears. Cheng Han Yue conveys special concern from the leadership, allowing He Yu Yang to take leave to be with Ba Te Er’s family.
Meanwhile, Bai Lang gazes at photos, lamenting the bravery of the 026 Special Assault Team while regretting his failure to properly use the bait, which has instead led to complications. He resolves to take new action and requests the extraction of VX4. Regarding the bomb arrangements, Bai Lang states he has his own plans.
Xici Li secretly manufactures two bombs—one real and one fake—speculating that Bai Lang might ask both individuals to carry them. Qi Heng Yi is shocked, while Peng Ying Xiang believes this situation intertwines trust and betrayal. He asserts that Bai Lang is using the "pieces" in their hands—Qi Heng Yi and another woman—to gain trust and test their loyalty.
Xici Li and Qi Heng Yi deliver the bombs to Bai Lang’s subordinates and witness the installation of the bomb on VX4. Wu Yi Man discovers clues about the bombs, but the old man, worried about further unknown threats, decides to investigate. He swiftly deploys, ordering the Lightning and Thunder teams to be on standby.
Bai Lang’s target is the water plant, intending to create chaos by contaminating the water supply. The old man has already set a trap, planning to execute the operation during repairs at the plant to minimize impact. At this moment, Bai Lang appears, and Xici Li and Qi Heng Yi seize the opportunity to infiltrate the plant and place the bombs.
Bai Lang himself participates by adding another bomb. Observing this, the old man immediately orders the two to end their undercover mission, while the SWAT team is on its way, and they must stall Bai Lang.
Peng Ying Xiang and the others arrive just in time; Qi Heng Yi quickly identifies and disarms the third bomb, temporarily averting disaster.
The struggle surrounding trust, courage, and intelligence continues, with each individual playing a crucial role in this smoke-free war.
