Episode 9 recap: Gao Wanying's Passing
In Episode 9, Zhan Guo says he needs to use the restroom and asks Zhao Jia Qi if she has any toilet paper. After a long nap, Zhan Guo still hasn't returned, which raises Zhao Jia Qi's suspicions. Zhan Guo then messages the sales team to come over. When the sales representative arrives, Zhan Guo expresses his desire to buy a house.
Zhan Guo brings the property deed to Zhao Jia Qi, leaving her shocked. He asks her to marry him, and she is thrilled. Zhan Guo also hands Zhao Jia Qi a bank card, which astonishes her. She initially thinks the money might be a bribe, insisting that he is a person of integrity and that she cannot accept dirty money.
Zhan Guo reassures her that it's his salary card and that every penny is legitimate. Confused, Zhao Jia Qi asks why he is giving her his salary card. Zhan Guo explains that he is withdrawing from his mission and wants her to use the money for whatever she needs, urging her not to shortchange herself.
Zhao Jia Qi, still shocked, asks where Zhan Guo is going, but he cannot tell her. She insists that he must stay safe while she waits for his return. Meanwhile, Peng Ying Xiang visits Gao Wanying and unexpectedly finds Qi Heng Yi there.
Qi Heng Yi mentions he is on a break and just wanted to check in. He says he has something to discuss with Peng Ying Xiang, who asks him to wait a moment. When Qi Heng Yi goes downstairs, he encounters Cheng Han Yue, who says she came to see Gao Wanying as well, but Peng Ying Xiang wouldn’t let her go up.
Peng Ying Xiang comes down and asks Cheng Han Yue why she is still around. Cheng Han Yue replies that she was just out shopping. Peng Ying Xiang suggests that Qi Heng Yi go to a nearby café. At the café, Peng Ying Xiang notices a strange person, who turns out to be a wanted criminal.
A fight breaks out between Peng Ying Xiang and the criminal, and she urges Qi Heng Yi to call the police immediately.
Qi Heng Yi initially wanted to call for help, but the criminal stopped him. Peng Ying Xiang urged Qi Heng Yi to get away quickly. In a moment of desperation, Qi Heng Yi grabbed a bottle and smashed it over the criminal's head.
During the struggle, the wanted man slashed Qi Heng Yi with a knife. Peng Ying Xiang managed to subdue the attacker. The police, having received the alert, soon arrived on the scene. Cheng Han Yue also came over, surprised to see how things had escalated so quickly.
A doctor treated Qi Heng Yi's wound, noting that it was dangerously close to an artery and could have been life-threatening. The police needed to take Qi Heng Yi's statement, but he wanted to change clothes first and asked them to come to his clinic at 3 PM.
Meanwhile, Peng Ying Xiang received shocking news that Wang Rui Jie had died despite efforts to save him. At Gao Wanying's grave, Peng Ying Xiang reflected on past events, recalling that Gao Wanying had posed as a dealer to negotiate with the enemy. They had dealt with a sniper outside, but the sniper regained consciousness and fell, drawing attention.
Wang Rui Jie had chased a vehicle but met with an accident. Despite the rain, Peng Ying Xiang stayed put, and Cheng Han Yue did not leave either. The instructor approached Peng Ying Xiang, stating that it wasn’t his fault Wang Rui Jie died; the blame lay with the criminals.
Peng Ying Xiang assured him that she was okay. Qi Heng Yi came looking for Peng Ying Xiang but found she wasn't answering her phone. He then called Cheng Han Yue, who agreed to bring him to her.
When Qi Heng Yi arrived, he comforted Peng Ying Xiang, suggesting she should find a way to move on. He expressed concern about how she could continue her mission and protect others in her current state. Peng Ying Xiang insisted she was fine.
