Episode 18 recap: Ha Li Ke Loses to Lin Hao

In Episode 18, Lin Hao's dad and grandpa unexpectedly stumble upon a stall selling old photographs while walking down the street. They discover a wedding photo of Lin Hao's dad and Aunt Sheng Lin, which was salvaged from an old photo studio set to be demolished. Overwhelmed with emotion, Lin Hao's dad quickly buys the photo and brings it home, giving this precious memory a good new home.

Ha Li Ke is a determined young man. Once he decides to form a racing team, he dives headfirst into training, spinning like a top and hardly taking a moment to catch his breath. Why is he pushing himself so hard? Because he has a big goal in mind—to secure investment from Mr. Zhao and compete against Lin Hao on the race track.

On the other hand, Shen Di impresses Mr. Wang with her expertise and talent, successfully securing his investment. Hao Qiang observes this and feels even more admiration for Shen Di. He reflects on how much she has contributed to Da Bao over the years, particularly recalling how he once tried to outdo her during the red date festival—now he feels quite embarrassed about it.

Hao Qiang tells the mayor that they should treat those who contribute to Da Bao better, so no one feels disheartened. Noticing Hao Qiang's recent stomach pains, the mayor advises him to see a doctor, but Hao Qiang brushes it off, thinking he’s not that fragile and won’t end up like those overworked grassroots officials in dramas. He waves his hand, insisting he's in good health.

Before rejoining his team, Lin Hao makes a point to meet Shen Di, and they discuss the upcoming selection competition. Lin Hao knows the commercial racing team is highly competitive and that results speak for themselves, but he is confident in his abilities. Ha Li Ke, not wanting to be left behind, rushes from his hometown of Da Bao to Ha Ning, eager to challenge Lin Hao.

Gu Cheng Feng gives Ha Li Ke a vehicle to train with, allowing him to compete against Lin Hao. The showdown between these skilled racers captivates everyone watching. In the end, Ha Li Ke falls slightly short and loses to Lin Hao.

Feeling disheartened, especially since Mr. Zhao promised to invest in his team if he won, Ha Li Ke is reassured by Lin Hao, who advises him that to break through, he needs a scientific approach and the right mindset.

Lin Hao is also considering buying back a car he previously sold, but when he arrives at the shop, the owner, recognizing him as an old acquaintance, quotes an exorbitant price of fifty-five thousand. While Lin Hao is negotiating, Aierken and Ha Li Ke arrive. Originally, Ha Li Ke planned to help Lin Hao pay, but as luck would have it, the owner recognizes Aierken as his idol. This leads to a generous discount, but the owner has a small request—to take a photo with Aierken, who gladly agrees, while Ha Li Ke even helps him fix his hair.

Watching this unfold, Aierken feels a twinge of discomfort. He senses that Ha Li Ke has changed; what started as a passion for flying has now seemingly shifted to a focus on winning at all costs. He tries to ask Ha Li Ke about it, but Ha Li Ke struggles to articulate his feelings.

As the New Year approaches, Hao Qiang joins Shen Di’s team in celebration. The starry camp is officially completed that day, and everyone is filled with hope for a brighter future together in Da Bao.

However, amidst the festive atmosphere, Hao Qiang feels a heavy weight on his heart. He learns that his wife has been coughing persistently and, to his dismay, discovers that the medication she has been taking is for lung cancer. This realization stirs a mix of emotions within him, making him feel he hasn’t been attentive enough. He silently vows to spend more time with her and prioritize her health from now on.
