A long time ago, the universe exploded from an incredibly hot and dense point, forming the vast cosmos we know today. It continues to expand, exploring endless boundaries, possibly touching another equally mysterious universe—Zhenhun Street. This is a world where spirits, spirit possessors, guardians, and異人 coexist, filled with dangers for any humans who wander in.
Two drunken friends are chatting under an old locust tree, joking about "the locust tree in front, where a hundred ghosts roam at night." Suddenly, a group of eerie異人 appears, causing them to flee in terror. At that critical moment, Cao Yan Bing, the guardian of Luocha Street, steps in and easily disperses the malevolent spirits.
Meanwhile, Xia Ling, an ordinary intern, oversleeps after staying up late to finish a presentation. In her rush, she accidentally bumps into Cao Yan Bing, who is delivering takeout. Without apologizing, she hurriedly runs off. As a result, she arrives late and gets scolded by her boss, who demands that she immediately send the presentation to a client. Just then, her computer loses internet connection, forcing Xia Ling to complete the task using her mobile data.
Later, during dinner, the takeout Xia Ling ordered arrives, and it’s delivered by none other than Cao Yan Bing. After a reprimand from him, Xia Ling loses her temper, and the two end up in a physical altercation, which is secretly recorded by their colleagues.
On her way home that night, Xia Ling meets a kind little girl on the bus who offers her a chocolate to cheer her up. As the bus drives through a tunnel, the lights suddenly go out, and Xia Ling is horrified to see the shadow of a malevolent spirit. It turns out to be a spatial disturbance created by the異人, pulling her into the spirit realm. When she wakes up, she finds herself still on the bus, where a mother pleads with her to save her daughter.
Xia Ling picks up the little girl, but they are soon attacked by the異人. The girl’s screams attract more of these spirits, and they find themselves in a dire situation. The異人 brutally kill the girl, and Xia Ling desperately tries to escape. Just as she is about to be caught, a light shines from a mountaintop, and Cao Yan Bing arrives just in time to eliminate all the異人.
To protect Xia Ling, Cao Yan Bing wipes her memory. When she wakes up, she finds herself in a hospital with her friends looking worriedly at her. Cao Yan Bing’s brother, Cao Xuanliang, reveals what happened, expressing concern that the異人 may continue hunting humans. Cao Yan Bing reflects on how, in the eyes of the異人, human life is as light as a feather; sometimes, they only seek a corpse.
Xia Ling is the sole survivor of the accident. After the police investigation, her colleagues distance themselves from her out of fear of “bad luck.” At this point, she receives a video email from the spirit possessor, Ghost Talisman San Tong, warning her that the Grim Reaper has not given up and that she will face more threats in the future. Ghost Talisman San Tong offers survival advice and instructs her to seek help from a specific person at a given address. However, Xia Ling dismisses it and closes the video.
Soon after, while paying her property fees, she narrowly escapes being hit by falling debris, and later almost falls into a river. These incidents lead her to start believing in Ghost Talisman San Tong’s warnings. When she reviews the unfinished video, she learns that she must find a guardian named Cao Yan Bing, who lives in a courtyard with a locust tree, as he is her only hope.
Thus, Xia Ling sets off on a journey to find Cao Yan Bing, realizing that in this world filled with unknown dangers, her survival depends on her own strength and wisdom, as well as the help of others.
