In Episode 16, Bai Jingxuan tells Cao Yan Bing that the people currently living in Mingjing Village are not the original inhabitants; they came from the human realm. Cao Yan Bing recalls seeing a little girl in the village who had a scar from a vaccination for tuberculosis.In the Lingyu realm, it’s difficult for ordinary people to survive, except for those with special abilities known as Spirit Hosts. They either adapt and become Spirit People or transform into strange beings. However, the residents of Mingjing Village are neither Spirit People nor strange beings. They were actually captured and used as test subjects to study how to survive in Lingyu.
Five years ago, Nan Yufu experimented on these individuals and developed a new drug, all of whom were Spirit Hosts. Now that Nan Yufu has heard of Cao Yan Bing's troubles, specifically that he killed Bai Jingxuan of the Spirit Armored Army, he and Lord Men are waiting for the Bodhi tree to glow so that Lord Men can take Xia Ling back to the human realm.
Bai Jingxuan also informs Cao Yan Bing that the elderly man in the wheelchair is the elder of Mingjing Village. The villagers are unable to speak because they are forbidden to do so in order to survive. Bai Jingxuan himself was once a resident of Mingjing Village. Five years ago, the village was a magical place capable of healing many ailments, attracting injured people from outside. However, there was a rule: anyone healed had to forget their experience in the village.
Once, Nan Yufu arrived in the village severely injured. The elder noticed his serious condition but found only one visible wound. According to the village's rules, the elder intended to erase Nan Yufu's memory before treating him, but Nan Yufu was too weak to undergo the procedure. Therefore, the elder could only treat his wounds first.
Nan Yufu sat under the Bodhi tree for ten days, during which his injuries improved significantly. During this time, he listened to Bai Jingxuan play the piano and shared stories about the outside world. Bai Jingxuan, eager to see the outside world, quickly grew to trust Nan Yufu.
Once Nan Yufu was fully healed, he prepared to leave Mingjing Village. The elder asked Bai Jingxuan to erase Nan Yufu's memory, but Nan Yufu expressed his desire to remember Bai Jingxuan. Moved by this, Bai Jingxuan hesitated and ultimately didn’t go through with it.
After seeing Nan Yufu off, Bai Jingxuan felt sad and played another piece for him. Unexpectedly, Nan Yufu returned, wanting to take Bai Jingxuan to see the outside world, resulting in a major disaster.
