In Episode 20, Xia Ling is overwhelmed by a deep longing for Mingjing Village and immediately decides to return to that familiar place. While getting ready in her dorm room, Bai Jingyin quietly appears. He is captivated by Xia Ling's natural demeanor, which inadvertently causes him to have a nosebleed.
Startled by this, Xia Ling mistakenly believes Bai Jingyin is chasing her. However, he quickly gestures for her to calm down and reveals an item from his pocket—it's a token that Xia Ling had previously given to Cao Yan Bing, symbolizing his identity as the Fire General.
Meanwhile, Zhao Xin anxiously waits for Xia Ling outside the dormitory, his face etched with concern. He informs her that Cao Yan Bing is in grave danger and urgently needs help. Moreover, Mingjing Village has been devastated; the sacred Bodhi tree has been destroyed, and the entire village has suffered tremendous losses, with only two little girls possibly surviving. Thinking of Shui'er and Gou'er, Xia Ling urgently asks Zhao Xin how he knows her whereabouts.
Zhao Xin explains that it was the Ghostly Symbol of Three Communications that informed him of Xia Ling's location.
On the other hand, Cao Yan Bing is in dire straits, with severe injuries and a faltering will to fight. Yet, Xu Chu encourages him, reminding him of his responsibilities and mission as a descendant of Ming Gong, asserting that his young life should not be easily surrendered.
Inspired by Xu Chu's words, Cao Yan Bing reignites his fighting spirit and vows to take down Nan Yufu, determined not to let such a person take control of the world.
In the Bei Luo Shi Men, a former elite of the police force, he is now a prisoner of Nan Yufu. His real name is Bai Shimen, known for his exceptional dodging skills that allowed him to evade bullets effortlessly. However, this ability forced him to be away from home for long periods, neglecting his daughter Shui'er.
Shui'er, having lost her mother at a young age and often bullied by classmates, has had a tough life. On her birthday, when they were supposed to have a warm reunion, Bai Shimen receives an urgent mission and is forced to abandon his plans to be with her.
Heartbroken, he entrusts Shui'er to Aunt Wang and leaves hastily. This, unfortunately, becomes their final farewell. During his mission, Bai Shimen is captured and subjected to inhumane torture, all part of a scheme by his captain, who has colluded with the bandits. In despair, Bai Shimen pleads with his captain to let him call Shui'er, but the captain remains unmoved and plans to let him starve in prison.
The appearance of Nan Yufu seems to offer Bai Shimen a glimmer of hope, but the condition he proposes is for Bai Shimen to take a pill. Without hesitation, Bai Shimen swallows it to save Shui'er. However, when he returns home, he finds that Shui'er has already died of hunger. Heartbroken, he begs Nan Yufu to bring her back to life, but Nan Yufu informs him that the pill is only effective for spiritual beings and has no effect on ordinary people.
To save his daughter, Bai Shimen must give up everything and follow Nan Yufu into the Spirit Realm, leading to a deadly battle against Shi Lingming.
