Episode 14 recap: Jiang Shiyan Wants to Know Tang Yang's Position

In episode 14, with the whole family working together, the New Year's Eve dinner was lively and festive. The family gathered around the table, enjoying each other's company, and Jiang Shiyan was particularly cheerful, smiling from ear to ear as if all the happiness in the world was concentrated in that moment.

During the meal, everyone started joking that Tang Yang and Jiang Shiyan should be at the "kids' table," since neither of them was married yet, following the old rural tradition that unmarried individuals are considered kids. Tang Yang took the opportunity to share some amusing stories about Jiang Shiyan from their past, which had everyone laughing and reminiscing about the good times.

Meanwhile, Cheng Hui couldn't join the family celebration due to work commitments; he was on duty at the office that New Year's Eve. He sent his best wishes through a small red envelope, which contained just a little over ten cents, but it was filled with heartfelt sentiments. Tang Yang and Jiang Shiyan joked that Cheng Hui should send a bigger amount next time. Cheng Hui explained that the small amount was generated randomly by a little program, but unexpectedly, Sheng Nina received a much larger red envelope worth 188 yuan.

Sheng Nina also missed the family dinner, resorting to a quick meal of instant hot pot provided by her company, which she shared on social media. When Cheng Hui saw her post, he realized he had a few boxes of instant hot pot at home and was undecided about which flavor to try. Seeing Sheng Nina's choice of Tom Yum hot pot with dumplings, he immediately decided to make dumplings too.

After dinner, Tang Yang and Jiang Shiyan strolled around the village. Passing by a small shop, they noticed an old man still selling fireworks. They bought some fireworks and a pack of "Big Bubbles" gum, which brought back childhood memories as they used to compete to see who could blow the biggest bubbles. They reminisced about their joyful youth, feeling as though time had stood still.

Back at home, Jiang Shiyan's mother asked him to take Tang Yang to his room to fetch a gift. It was Tang Yang's first time entering Jiang Shiyan's room, where he saw toys and photos from Jiang Shiyan's childhood, and he couldn't help but chuckle at his baby-faced pictures.

Jiang Shiyan's mother gifted Tang Yang a pearl necklace, and Tang Yang asked Jiang Shiyan to help him put it on.

At that moment, the two were very close, and Jiang Shiyan's heart raced as he nearly leaned in to kiss Tang Yang. However, a shadow passing by the window startled Tang Yang, causing him to push Jiang Shiyan away.

The atmosphere suddenly turned awkward, but fortunately, someone outside shouted about the fireworks, and they quickly went downstairs to blend in with the crowd, easing the tension. Jiang Shiyan felt a bit disappointed; he thought his feelings for Tang Yang had transcended friendship, but his actions the night before seemed to have made Tang Yang uncomfortable. Worried that Tang Yang might distance himself because of it, Jiang Shiyan decided to head back to his room to rest early.

Tang Yang realized that his reaction might have led Jiang Shiyan to misunderstand, and he felt a bit guilty about it. The next day, as Tang Yang and his family prepared to leave, Jiang Shiyan rushed over, having woken up late, to give him a leftover date cake. Tang Yang noticed Jiang Shiyan's discomfort and took the initiative to reassure him, saying there was no need to worry about what happened the night before.

After the New Year, Feng Weiran organized a gathering where Tang Yang and Jiang Shiyan met again. Jiang Shiyan was eager to get a clear answer from Tang Yang about whether their relationship could progress further. However, Tang Yang believed that their closeness the previous night was just a momentary impulse from Jiang Shiyan. She valued their years of friendship more and clarified her stance, stating that they were already like soulmates, akin to sworn brothers from high school.

After hearing this, Jiang Shiyan decided he would no longer refer to her as "Yang Ge." Although Tang Yang didn't fully understand this change, she promised that regardless of how things might evolve in the future, Jiang Shiyan would always be an indispensable person in her life.
