Episode 16 recap: Jiang Shiyan Gave Gan Yiming a Serious Beating
In Episode 16, at a party, Linlang decides to follow Gan Yiming and ends up drinking quite a bit. Tang Yang notices that Linlang doesn't look well and quickly takes her away from the scene. In the bathroom, Linlang spends a long time throwing up and feels very unwell. Tang Yang suggests she go home to rest and not worry about anything else.
Gan Yiming had his own plans, but Tang Yang interferes, which frustrates him. Seeing Tang Yang on stage handing out awards makes Gan Yiming even angrier. Seizing the opportunity when no one is watching, he calls Tang Yang outside under the pretense of discussing work.
Once outside, Gan Yiming puts his hand on Tang Yang's shoulder, expressing his growing desire to conquer outstanding women. Tang Yang senses his intentions and warns him to back off. When Gan Yiming doesn’t relent, Tang Yang grabs a metal fork and presses it against his neck, indicating that he would go to any lengths to make sure Gan Yiming understands the consequences.
Jiang Shiyan, who is also at the party, soon realizes that Tang Yang is missing and starts looking for her. When he finds Tang Yang confronting Gan Yiming with the fork, he angrily tosses the fork aside and storms off. Recalling that Gan Yiming had previously tried to get handsy with Tang Yang, Jiang Shiyan rushes over and gives Gan Yiming a thorough beating.
Before long, Gan Yiming, bruised and battered, awkwardly leaves the party. Tang Yang notices that Jiang Shiyan follows him out and realizes that he has defended her. It’s clear that Jiang Shiyan has been looking out for her all along, and any previous discomfort she felt quickly disappears.
Tang Yang helps Jiang Shiyan tend to his wounds, discovering that this seemingly tough guy is actually quite fragile; despite landing several punches on Gan Yiming, his own hand is almost broken.
Zhou Mo witnesses the altercation and steps in to call a ride for Gan Yiming. It turns out that Gan Yiming's wife is Zhou Mo's boss, and Zhou Mo was sent to bring Gan Yiming home. The couple has long been living separately, only putting on a façade when necessary. Whenever Mrs. Gan needs money, she asks Gan Yiming for company loans.
Seeing her husband’s injuries, Mrs. Gan suspects trouble caused by a woman and warns him to be careful. Gan Yiming just smiles and tells her to be content; the illegal loans from recent years could lead to dire consequences if discovered, so he believes in enjoying life while he can.
As Jiang Shiyan prepares to confess his feelings to Tang Yang, his phone rings—it's his mother asking him to come home to help. At the same time, Tang Yang’s mom calls as well. They both hurry back home, and Jiang Shiyan ends up at Tang Yang's house with his mother. Throughout this, Jiang Shiyan tries to bring up what he wanted to say at the party, but various interruptions keep getting in the way.
Finally, on the way home after dropping off his mother, Jiang Shiyan can’t hold back any longer. He tells her to go ahead and returns to Tang Yang's house, ready to confess his feelings in person.
