Episode 5 recap: Jiang Shiyan Helps Tang Yang Sabotage a Blind Date
In Episode 5, Tang Yang's old classmate, Zhou Mo, invites her out for dinner. As soon as Jiang Shiyan hears about it, he rushes over. When he arrives, he finds that Tang Yang's blind date is a tall, wealthy, and successful guy. Jiang Shiyan feels anxious, worried that Tang Yang might get swept away.
To make matters worse, the two of them hit it off during their conversation, which makes Jiang Shiyan feel like he's eaten a lemon. He quickly texts his friends, asking them to come over urgently under the pretense of an emergency.
Cheng Hui and Feng Weiran receive the message and rush over, thinking something serious has happened. When they arrive, they discover it's just a fancy Western restaurant. Feng Weiran sees through Jiang Shiyan's motives immediately, realizing he brought them along to scope things out. Encouraged by their arrival, Jiang Shiyan quickly arranges for Zhou Mo to sit on the opposite side of the table, increasing the distance between the two.
However, Zhou Mo is quite impressive and wins over Jiang Shiyan's "support group" in no time. Especially Feng Weiran, who is worried about getting his child into a popular piano class. When Zhou Mo offers to help, Feng Weiran fully sides with him.
The dinner is lively, with everyone praising Zhou Mo for his looks and maturity. The girls are particularly taken with him, which only adds to Jiang Shiyan's discomfort. He initially planned to have everyone point out Zhou Mo's flaws to ruin the date, but instead, it turns into a "vote of support" for Zhou Mo.
Interestingly, Feng Weiran's wife brings along a fun compatibility test, and everyone gets into it. Jiang Shiyan goes first, thinking he and Tang Yang will score high, but to everyone's amusement, they receive the lowest score of fifty-two, indicating they have little romantic connection. Jiang Shiyan feels utterly embarrassed.
Meanwhile, Zhou Mo is enjoying lively conversations with Tang Yang's friends. One classmate, who knows Tang Yang well, shares that she's very driven—she saved up to buy a house right after graduating and has been living frugally ever since, even forgoing her favorite collectibles. Zhou Mo finds himself liking Tang Yang even more after hearing this.
Later, Tang Yang quietly tells Jiang Shiyan that she hopes he can be there to help her out at future blind dates, just like this time. Without hesitation, he agrees and even sets an alarm to remind himself.
However, on the day of the next date, he accidentally sleeps in. The thought of Tang Yang chatting with a stranger makes him speed on the way there. Fortunately, he manages to arrive just in time to save the day.
On their way home, Jiang Shiyan feels starving, and Tang Yang invites him over for dinner. After the meal, their relationship seems to deepen a bit, but Jiang Shiyan still has his own thoughts and feelings to sort out.
