Episode 6 recap: Tang Yang Stands Up Jiang Shi Yan for Zhou Mo
In Episode 6, during dinner, Tang Yang's mother hears Jiang Shi Yan call her daughter "Yang Ge." She quietly advises Jiang Shi Yan not to use that nickname, worried it might make her daughter too buddy-like with guys. Jiang Shi Yan suddenly realizes that her catchphrase does seem quite bro-like. After dinner, when Tang Yang walks Jiang Shi Yan to the door, Jiang Shi Yan asks how she should address her in the future. Tang Yang replies that any nickname is fine.
Originally, Tang Yang and Jiang Shi Yan had planned to play tennis on Sunday, but early that morning, Tang Yang receives a WeChat message from her senior, Zhou Mo, asking for her help with something. Unable to refuse, Tang Yang sends her location to meet.
At the tennis meeting spot, Feng Wei Ran arrives early with his wife, and Jiang Shi Yan brings snacks, excited to have a good time. However, they soon receive a message from Tang Yang indicating she can't make it because of her meeting with Zhou Mo. Jiang Shi Yan is distracted throughout their tennis game, especially when she hears a friend say that Tang Yang is destined to find a partner this year, likely someone she knows but doesn't know well. Since Tang Yang and Jiang Shi Yan understand each other so well, Jiang Shi Yan feels dejected.
Meanwhile, Sheng Ni Na, an actress who previously helped Jiang Shi Yan’s company with a few livestreams, has now gotten a film role and is focused on her own projects. Noticing that the views aren’t great, Jiang Shi Yan calls Sheng Ni Na. Although Sheng Ni Na’s manager subtly hints that she shouldn’t agree to Jiang Shi Yan’s request, Sheng Ni Na still has a good impression of her and agrees to meet.
Tang Yang and Zhou Mo meet at Feng Wei Ran's café, where Zhou Mo's request for help turns out to be about getting Tang Yang's opinion on several figurine designs. Zhou Mo learned from their old classmates that Tang Yang likes collectibles, so he wanted her input.
That day, Tang Yang stays out late and when she returns, she notices she hasn’t replied to Jiang Shi Yan’s messages for a long time, realizing she might have hurt Jiang Shi Yan’s feelings.
To express her apology, Tang Yang bought a fish-flavored shredded pork rice bowl and delivered it to Jiang Shi Yan's office the next day during lunch. Jiang Shi Yan is actually quite easy to appease; she had been upset, but seeing Tang Yang personally bring her lunch made her mood brighten, and all her grievances faded away.
Later, Tang Yang received a loan application from a woman whose husband was a soldier who died while carrying out a special mission. As a woman, Tang Yang felt deep sympathy and was eager to help her get approved for the loan. However, a colleague reminded her that being a widow would mean additional repayment pressure.
After work, Tang Yang and Jiang Shi Yan planned to go for a walk together. With Tang Yang, Jiang Shi Yan could forget everything. As they passed the gym, even though it was closed, Jiang Shi Yan wanted to satisfy her craving to play tennis. She suggested they climb over the wall. With their agility, they managed to scale it together, but the door to the tennis court was locked. Just then, the security guard spotted them, and Jiang Shi Yan quickly pulled Tang Yang away as they ran. They finally found a supply room that had been left unlocked and hid inside.
In the cramped space, Tang Yang and Jiang Shi Yan were very close, close enough to hear each other's breathing. Jiang Shi Yan felt a bit embarrassed and apologized to Tang Yang for taking her on this late-night adventure. However, Tang Yang candidly pointed out that they were completely different; they were like parallel lines. Jiang Shi Yan's career demanded flexibility, freshness, and fashion, while Tang Yang's job was rigid and meticulous, requiring her to often suppress her true feelings and respond in a very formal manner when dealing with different people.
