Episode 8 recap: Jiang Shiyan's Battle of Wits with the Kidnapper
In episode 8, Cheng Hui and Sheng Ni Na are doing an outdoor live broadcast in a picturesque coastal hillside area, surrounded by tea gardens, a bright blue sky, and fresh air. Cheng Hui is serious and diligent while working, but after wrapping up, he stays busy with his own activities, like night runs and watching sunrises. Sheng Ni Na has never met anyone so energetic; even the assistant suspects that he might be pretending to "bump into" her to create opportunities for flirting.
However, Cheng Hui truly goes to watch the sunrise. His alarm goes off at four in the morning, and he had checked the sunrise time the night before to plan his route. Meanwhile, Tang Yang is eager to help the owner of a food shop. Jiang Shiyan happens to meet the owner’s son and feels sympathy for the bullied child. They quickly come up with a plan to create a promotional food video for the shop. Jiang Shiyan, along with her professional filming team, prepares meticulously, even interviewing the owner about her struggles and the shop's origins. The inspiring video attracts many visitors, and the shop's business booms.
At the bank, employees notice how successful Tang Yang’s food shop is becoming and envy her for being linked to such a profitable venture, but Tang Yang considers herself lucky. That day, an unexpected visitor arrives at Jiang Shiyan’s company. He had believed an advertisement link and purchased a fund, only to find the website had vanished. Angered and desperate, he storms into Jiang Shiyan's office and takes a woman hostage, holding a knife to her neck.
In this critical situation, Jiang Shiyan, as the company leader, steps up to calm the kidnapper. He is solely focused on retrieving his investment. Jiang Shiyan advises him to call the police, explaining that her website had never hosted such a link. The police arrive quickly, along with a psychologist. There’s a large crowd of onlookers, and the psychologist suggests that Jiang Shiyan try to stabilize the kidnapper’s emotions and lead him to a less crowded area. While organizing her thoughts and staying calm, Jiang Shiyan, with the help of the police, manages to guide the assailant toward the elevator.
Tang Yang sees the live broadcast and realizes that Jiang Shiyan is face-to-face with the kidnapper, who still has a knife. Terrified, she immediately leaves her staff meeting to rush to the scene, relieved to find that Jiang Shiyan has escaped unharmed. When she arrives, she witnesses Jiang Shiyan heroically wresting the knife away from the kidnapper, only to be pushed down in the struggle.
Tang Yang rushes over, helping Jiang Shiyan up. Surprised to see her there, Jiang Shiyan is taken aback by Tang Yang’s tears of fear. Despite the danger, Jiang Shiyan feels that this risk was worth it.
The crisis at the company keeps Jiang Shiyan and her staff working overtime, with Tang Yang staying by her side. When Jiang Shiyan's mother sees the news report, she panics and quickly calls her son. Seeing him safe, especially with Tang Yang by his side, brings her some relief.
In the early hours, Tang Yang falls asleep on the couch in Jiang Shiyan's office. Jiang Shiyan gently covers her with a blanket, admiring her long eyelashes. In that moment, Jiang Shiyan feels that the late-night work isn’t tiring at all; in fact, it seems somewhat romantic.
