Episode 10 recap: Ge Xin Wei Almost Loses Herself to the Brothel
In Episode 10, Lian Huan faces a dilemma when she runs out of embroidery thread. Huang Bei Shuang, seeing the situation clearly, suspects that Zhen Qu You Jia is behind this. The two are at a loss when Huang Bei Shuang has a sudden idea after reading about a remedy in a book: the roots of the Jie Ma tree can be used as thread.
Determined, she enlists Lian Huan and Ye Pei to work through the night, peeling and extracting fibers from the tree roots to create embroidery thread. Ye Pei complains, saying this task is harder than climbing to the heavens and wonders how long it will take to get fine thread.
Meanwhile, Huo Qing Yun quietly observes their struggle. When Huang Bei Shuang eventually falls asleep from exhaustion, he quietly takes over. Using his memory and patience, he processes the remaining roots into exquisite embroidery thread and places it discreetly in front of Huang Bei Shuang’s window.
The next morning, Huang Bei Shuang wakes up to find the thread and realizes Huo Qing Yun has been there. Holding a candle, she pretends to casually exit her room, while Huo Qing Yun intentionally hides inside, playing a game of hide-and-seek with her.
Huang Bei Shuang, aware of his intentions, feigns a fall, prompting Huo Qing Yun to rush over and help her. They banter back and forth, with Huo Qing Yun expressing how much he misses her. Despite her teasing, Huang Bei Shuang feels warmth in her heart and asks why he came at such an hour. He simply states it's about some old matters.
Ye Pei hears the commotion, and Huang Bei Shuang quickly covers for herself, claiming she had been asleep all along.
That night, Huo Qing Yun sneaks into Yun Fang Pavilion again. Seizing the chance, Huang Bei Shuang wraps her arms around his waist. Concerned about her hand injury, Huo Qing Yun stays and helps her finish the embroidery piece.
The official praises Zhen Qu You Jia's work, and the general finds it collectible. However, when he sees that Huang Bei Shuang's embroidery is a wrist guard, he frowns, feeling it lacks effort. Anticipating this reaction, Huang Bei Shuang asks to explain in person.
She requests General Wu to cut the wrist guard with a knife, and to everyone's surprise, it remains undamaged. The general is taken aback and inquires about the technique used. Huang Bei Shuang smiles and explains that she was inspired by a herbal remedy, discovering that Jie Ma tree roots can withstand blades, leading to her creative idea. The general is very pleased with the wrist guard but finds it hard to judge their skills.
The official suggests that in ten days, both ladies should present a dish, and then a decision will be made. The general nods in agreement.
Zhen Qu You Jia, unwilling to accept defeat, blames Xiao Lian for the poor suggestion. Although she stole Huang Bei Shuang’s embroidery thread, Huang Bei Shuang still managed to exploit the tree roots.
Determined not to take things lightly in the next culinary showdown, Zhen Qu You Jia resolves to come up with a better dish. Meanwhile, Ruo Wen waits outside the armory for news from Qin Duo, leaving Man Hu puzzled. Just then, news arrives from a brother that Ge Xin Wei is at the brothel.
Ruo Wen devises a plan to kill two birds with one stone.
The madam of the brothel is exasperated with Ge Xin Wei, who has a fiery temper and refuses to entertain guests or even eat. Ruo Wen and his group force their way into the brothel, pretending to seek pleasure, and the madam reluctantly allows Ge Xin Wei to serve them. Upon seeing Ruo Wen, Ge Xin Wei is both surprised and furious, demanding to know why he has come so late and lamenting her forced situation.
Ruo Wen offers her a chance for revenge, suggesting she thank him in her own way. Man Hu threatens the madam, insisting they use the brothel’s premises for their plans, and the madam has no choice but to comply.
Sha Qu, holding a portrait of Ge Xin Wei, inquires about her at the E Na Qi tribe and unexpectedly learns that she is the true Princess Na Xiu.
Huo Qing Yun is shocked to discover the truth: Huang Bei Shuang and Ge Xin Wei had already swapped identities and ties. He recalls the desperate cries of Lady Ma outside the door, filled with guilt and regret. Sha Qu believes that the enmity from the murder of Huo Qing Yun’s mother cannot be overlooked, and that his bond with Huang Bei Shuang is destined to be short-lived.
Meanwhile, Huang Bei Shuang is engrossed in her studies, searching for the secrets of the Double Fruit Tree. She suspects that the second part of the mysterious scroll may be related to climate. In the dead of night, she steps outside her room, looking across but finding no sign of Huo Qing Yun, which stirs a ripple of emotion within her.
On the other side, Qin Duo arrives at the Zui Xiang Lou to seek pleasure, while Ruo Wen disguises himself as a servant and deliberately arranges for Ge Xin Wei to entertain guests. Ge Xin Wei initially plans to steal Qin Duo’s keys but is instead caught. He becomes aggressive with her, and Ruo Wen, unable to bear it any longer, rushes into the room to rescue Ge Xin Wei and gives Qin Duo a thorough beating. Afterwards, Ruo Wen scolds Ge Xin Wei for her bravado, while she remains shaken by the earlier scare.
Later, Huo Qing Yun sneaks back to Huang Bei Shuang but finds she hasn’t truly fallen asleep; she’s been waiting for him. Hesitating, he asks her if she senses anything unusual. Huang Bei Shuang gently inquires if he’s facing any difficulties.
Knowing he can't face her deep affection, Huo Qing Yun makes an excuse to leave. However, Huang Bei Shuang hands him a belt made from Jie Ma tree roots. After a moment's hesitation, he accepts it, but she perceives something unusual in his gaze.
