Episode 15 recap: Huang Bei Shuang's Life-and-Death Trial with the Medicine

Let’s start from the beginning. There was a person named Ruo Wen, who was ruthless; they completely emptied the treasures of Yu Fu Pavilion. Zhen Qu You Jia was terrified, fearing that Ruo Wen would come after her. Not daring to confront the issue directly, she decided to report it and hoped that Lord Zhan would help her.

She explained to Lord Zhan that she had been tricked by a con artist who impersonated a royal chef and committed robbery, but she deliberately omitted mentioning Ruo Wen’s name, fearing it would bring trouble upon herself. Upon hearing this, Lord Zhan found the story absurd and even asked if Zhen Qu You Jia had been involved in something else. In her desperation, she nearly resorted to drastic measures, but fortunately, Lord Zhu intervened in time.

Lord Zhu stepped in to mediate and suggested consulting General Wu on how to catch the thief. Unfortunately, by that time, the thief had already vanished without a trace.

Meanwhile, Ruo Wen had received the news and was well aware of the situation at Ma Sui. They knew that the local populace was feeling uneasy. Huang Bei Shuang, watching the relentless rain, sensed something was off. Huo Qing Yun initially reassured her that she was overthinking it. However, when Huang Bei Shuang mentioned seeing a similar rain omen in a weather book, they realized a serious illness might be on the horizon.

Sure enough, Lord Zhu rushed in with alarming news that the people from the laundry house had fallen ill, and their condition was severe. Lord Zhan immediately ordered a lockdown of all areas to prevent anyone from entering or leaving. Worried, Huang Bei Shuang decided to investigate personally and discovered it was a case of wind-cold illness that needed urgent treatment. Huo Qing Yun speculated that the water source might be contaminated and suggested clearing the drainage.

At that moment, Sha Qu seized the opportunity to make a move, intending to switch people while the channels were being repaired, aiming to rescue Old Rong.

Unfortunately, Lord Zhan had already taken precautions, and Old Rong had been moved to safety. Huo Qing Yun returned empty-handed, only to hear that Huang Bei Shuang had signed a military order to treat the patients and had fallen ill herself.

In a panic, Huo Qing Yun planned to take Huang Bei Shuang to find a doctor. The doctor examined her and said the illness was difficult to treat unless they had a celestial ice toad as a medicinal catalyst. Without hesitation, Huo Qing Yun sent Sha Qu to fetch the ice toad, a treasured item of the city, disregarding the risks involved.

Lord Zhu was anxiously pacing, fearing for Huang Bei Shuang's life. However, Lord Zhan remained calm, wanting to see if Huang Bei Shuang truly had the capability to handle the situation. When Huang Bei Shuang regained consciousness, she wanted some fresh air, and Huo Qing Yun accompanied her. They began discussing their future, and Huang Bei Shuang finally revealed that she was actually the Ninth Princess and wanted to share the secrets of the desert scroll she had been studying.

Before she could finish, she fainted again.

Huo Qing Yun was heartbroken, already planning to take Huang Bei Shuang to the oasis for recovery. Just then, the miraculous doctor returned with the ice toad, smiling as he announced it was the antidote. After taking it, Huang Bei Shuang expelled a lot of toxic blood, and Huo Qing Yun was so overjoyed that she almost cried, thinking they could finally escape together.

However, Huang Bei Shuang insisted they still had unfinished tasks and couldn't leave yet. Lord Zhan, seeing her determination, commended her sense of responsibility. Huang Bei Shuang, however, was too humble to claim credit; she only sought Lord Zhan's trust.

To save Old Rong, Huo Qing Yun devised a ruse, disguising herself as General Wu, and used the official seal and documents to deceive the guards and rescue Old Rong from the dungeon. Sha Qu and others escorted him while also finding a doctor to treat him.

This entire ordeal finally calmed down, at least for the moment.
