Episode 21 recap: If You Ask About the Three Days and Nights of Unconsciousness
In Episode 21, Huang Bei Shuang reassures Huo Qing Yun not to blame himself now that the truth has come to light. Huo Qing Yun expresses his longing for Huang Bei Shuang and hopes she will leave this place with him. After careful consideration, Huang Bei Shuang decides not to leave, believing that their deep feelings are ultimately fleeting and that there’s no possibility for them to continue.
Ge Xin Wei can’t help but seek out Ruo Wen again, teasing him about not having a chance, suggesting that Huo Qing Yun will take Huang Bei Shuang away. Ruo Wen lies about needing to take a shower, telling Ge Xin Wei to wait on the bed, which makes her think he’s finally coming around.
Huang Bei Shuang faces her parents' memorial tablets, quietly expressing her feelings for Huo Qing Yun and hoping her parents can help her resolve her inner turmoil. She considers tossing a coin to make a decision. Suddenly, Ruo Wen barges in, interrupting her, and pushes her against the edge of the table, staring intensely into her eyes.
Huo Qing Yun pulls Ruo Wen away from Huang Bei Shuang, leading to a scuffle. Ruo Wen, confused and dazed, falls and hits his head. Ge Xin Wei rushes in to take him away, but Ruo Wen suddenly becomes disoriented and nearly strangles Ge Xin Wei. In his foggy memories, he recalls his mother and a scene from his childhood where he was chased in the desert.
Huo Qing Yun is unsure if Ruo Wen is truly Rong An and decides to wait until Ruo Wen is stable in Fen Tian before discussing their plans to confront the enemy. Sha Qu asks Huo Qing Yun if he’s worried about Huang Bei Shuang, but Huo Qing Yun refuses to pressure her, believing they should focus on the bigger picture.
Huang Bei Shuang heads to the council hall to find the architectural text, and Huo Qing Yun stubbornly follows. He suspects that Huang Bei Shuang has made a deal with Ruo Wen, promising to help her find the architectural text, and she agrees.
After Ruo Wen collapses and remains unconscious, Ge Xin Wei brings in a renowned doctor, but no issues are found. Ge Xin Wei stays by Ruo Wen’s bedside for three days and nights, unable to sleep, constantly reminding him he’s a “stinky man.”
Huo Qing Yun takes the opportunity to stay with Huang Bei Shuang under the pretense of bringing her breakfast. Huang Bei Shuang is conflicted, and Huo Qing Yun tries to coax her into eating, using sweet words to playfully manipulate her. Man Hu, noticing that Ruo Wen hasn’t woken up, asks Ge Xin Wei to accept gifts from the surrounding tribes on his behalf. In his dreams, Ruo Wen remembers his childhood experiences of fleeing with his parents while being pursued, witnessing his mother’s death at the hands of the Yun Pei army.
Under Huo Qing Yun's suggestion, Huang Bei Shuang discovers the architectural text left by her father. Huo Qing Yun looks at the portraits and shares his background with Huang Bei Shuang, revealing his deep-seated grudge against that war. Huang Bei Shuang pretends to be heartless, but Huo Qing Yun already knows her true feelings; he declares that he will stand up and help everyone seek revenge.
Seeing that Ruo Wen is still unconscious, Ge Xin Wei takes her frustration out on the doctor, blaming Huo Qing Yun for Ruo Wen's condition. Huo Qing Yun brings in a skilled physician, who examines Ruo Wen and explains that his soul has been taken away by his dreams, and he can only awaken when he’s ready.
Ge Xin Wei, heartbroken and in tears, expresses her feelings, urging Ruo Wen to wake up soon. The physician suggests preparing Ruo Wen’s favorite dishes to lure him back to consciousness. Ruo Wen awakens to the smell of chicken legs but doesn’t say a word. Ge Xin Wei encourages him to speak, reminding him that she has been by his side day and night.
Huo Qing Yun asks Sha Qu to escort the physician back to Yun Pei. Before leaving, the physician advises Huo Qing Yun to make amends with Ruo Wen, stating that it’s what he owes him. Once everyone has left, Ruo Wen decisively gets out of bed without a word; he wants to go to the place from his dreams to recover his lost memories, and Ge Xin Wei can’t stop him.
