Episode 7 recap: Huang Beishuang Demonstrates Her Exceptional Memory
In Episode 7, late at night, Ye Pei gently reminds Huang Beishuang that it's time to prepare for her bath. Noticing her hesitation, she quietly asks if something is troubling her. Huang Beishuang knows that disobedience is a serious offense, and despite her reluctance, she forces herself to tidy up and steps into the imposing royal chamber. Meanwhile, Zhen Qu You Jia tries to get closer to Na Zhan, hoping to win his favor with her charm. Huang Beishuang cleverly avoids the situation she wishes to stay away from by claiming she feels unwell.
Inside the chamber, Zhen Qu You Jia and Na Zhan indulge in their intimate moments, but Na Zhan's gaze often drifts toward Huang Beishuang. As Huang Beishuang casually flips through an unusual book, Na Zhan notices her and interrupts his current engagement to question her understanding of the text. To his surprise, Huang Beishuang responds fluently, showcasing her remarkable memory. She humbly praises Na Zhan for his vast knowledge, claiming she’s merely riding on his coattails.
Intrigued by her abilities, Na Zhan expresses that with such intelligence, she could survive in turbulent times and might even avoid numerous crises. Huang Beishuang firmly states that while she is not afraid of life and death, she has loved ones to consider and cannot let her personal desires disappoint them. Na Zhan seems to understand her perspective and believes that one day she will open up to him. He is willing to wait for that unexpected surprise. Seizing the moment, Huang Beishuang requests to return to her quarters, and Na Zhan readily agrees.
Meanwhile, Huo Qingyun drowns his sorrows in drink within the camp, furiously ordering his subordinate Sha Qu to finish the map by nightfall. On the other side, Ge Xinwei follows Ruo Wen closely, trying to get closer to him but is met with indifference and rejection. When she witnesses Ruo Wen coldly resolving disputes on Dong Bahe's territory, even ending Dong Bahe's life himself, she is filled with shock and confusion.
Ruo Wen takes the opportunity to consolidate his power by recruiting the remaining forces of Dong Bahe, treating them to food and drink. Under the influence of alcohol, Ge Xinwei finally voices her feelings; she is not afraid of Ruo Wen’s strength but rather despises this violent lifestyle. Leaning against Ruo Wen in a drunken haze, she shares her first experiences.
The next morning, Ruo Wen leaves valuables for Ge Xinwei before leading his men to Yunpei. Ge Xinwei wakes up to find she is alone, feeling a mix of emotions. Zhen Qu You Jia, basking in her favor, purposely boasts to Master Zhu about Na Zhan's gifts, hoping to draw more attention. News of Huang Beishuang's lack of favor spreads, causing Ye Pei to worry for her. However, Huang Beishuang remains calm, reminding those around her to tread carefully to avoid unnecessary trouble.
Soon after, Na Zhan personally visits Yunfang Pavilion, presenting Huang Beishuang with two precious scrolls. He subtly tests her knowledge and wisdom, and once again, her performance impresses him, leading him to reward her with the scrolls. Huang Beishuang perceives ambition in Na Zhan's eyes and begins to contemplate how to use this power for her family's revenge.
Sha Qu brings good news to Huo Qingyun—Huang Beishuang has returned safely and has not lost her virtue to Na Zhan. Immersed in the world of the scrolls, Huang Beishuang recalls her mother’s words, understanding that gathering all five scrolls is key to saving her people. The herbal scroll in her possession is particularly crucial, as it may contain clues to finding the others.
In the stillness of the night, Huo Qingyun quietly enters the courtyard and finds Huang Beishuang asleep in a chair. He gently drapes a thin blanket over her. Upon waking, Huang Beishuang asks about the blanket’s origin, and Ye Pei speculates it might be from Na Zhan.
Na Zhan’s plans are evident; he aims to harness Huang Beishuang’s intelligence for his own unification goals, while she silently plots how to leverage this power to win freedom and dignity for herself and her family. As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, Master Zhu's summons serves as a clarion call, signaling that the desert is about to witness another storm of change.
