Episode 18 recap: Coach Luo Encourages Jiu Mei to Compete
In Episode 18, Suo Lang accidentally injures his back, prompting Tu Deng to take him to a Tibetan hospital for treatment from Doctor Pu Bu. Coincidentally, Ashley learns that her mother has gone to the People's Hospital and rushes to the Tibetan hospital to inform her father. To her surprise, she runs into Tu Deng there. Tu Deng instantly recognizes Ashley and brings out his son, who has been hiding behind a curtain.
It turns out that their fathers are old friends, and both Tu Deng and Pu Bu are supportive of a potential match between their children, secretly plotting to bring them together. Ashley informs Pu Bu about her mother's condition, but he remains noncommittal. As they leave, Tu Deng discreetly advises Ashley not to mention this matter too hastily. He explains that she is unaware of her mother's detailed medical situation and that, as a skilled Tibetan doctor, Pu Bu might feel uncomfortable knowing his wife chose to go to another hospital.
After hearing Tu Deng's words, Ashley realizes he makes a valid point; she has indeed acted too impulsively.
Meanwhile, patient Peng Yang in bed six shows signs of improvement, which excites Za Xi, who is responsible for his care. Za Xi quickly reports this to the director, but after an examination, the director points out that this is merely the recovery of the eye muscle nerves, and they need to monitor Peng Yang's auditory and brain nerve recovery further. Consequently, the director arranges for Za Xi to consult with a neurosurgeon for a joint diagnosis.
Jiu Mei is torn about whether to take the teacher certification exam, and Coach Luo's words only add to his confusion. Staff members remind him that this is his last year to apply, and if he misses this opportunity, there won't be another. Meanwhile, Grandma Yu Zhen takes the initiative to approach Xu Shao Jie and enrolls in a Tibetan embroidery training class, which deeply moves Xu Shao Jie.
At the tea house, Ge Sang and Jiu Mei unexpectedly run into Tu Deng, and they discuss their dreams. When Tu Deng learns that Ge Sang wants to become a pilot, he praises her ambition, noting that she is more driven than his own two sons. Ge Sang's cheerful personality brings laughter to Tu Deng, and Jiu Mei seizes the moment to apologize to Qu Zong, someone he previously had misunderstandings with. Qu Zong happily accepts the apology and agrees to join them for dinner, even mentioning she will bring her boyfriend, Xu Shao Jie.
After returning home, Ashley cautiously asks her mother about her health, but Qiao Yanru insists she is fit and doesn't need frequent check-ups. Pu Bu advises Ashley on how to communicate effectively with Qiao Yanru, yet Ashley feels her father is all talk and has never taken any concrete action.
Za Xi was outside, humming a Tibetan opera tune, which caught Yin Wei's attention. It turned out that Za Xi had the opportunity to enter the gastroenterology department, but he chose this path because of his greater love for Tibetan opera. Yin Wei felt regretful but respected and encouraged Za Xi to pursue his dreams, believing he could be both a good doctor and an excellent Tibetan opera actor.
Grandma Yu Zhen returned to the Gaji Courtyard, humming a tune. She felt that life is short and should be spent doing meaningful things. Yang Jin admired Grandma Yu Zhen's embroidery skills. While helping Tu Deng clean his room, Ge Sang accidentally broke something. Just as Tu Deng was feeling upset about it, Za Xi's arrival thrilled Ge Sang, who rushed over and hugged him, leaving Tu Deng stunned.
As night fell, Ge Sang and Za Xi had a heartfelt conversation on the rooftop, encouraging each other. Meanwhile, Suo Lang privately asked Za Xi to find out about Qiao Yanru, but Za Xi declined out of respect for her privacy. The next morning, Hasan insisted on learning Mandarin from Za Xi, and Suo Lang proposed that if Za Xi could help him understand Qiao Yanru's situation, he would help resolve Ge Sang's issues.
With Grandma Yu Zhen's assistance, the Tibetan embroidery training class attracted many female students, and Yang Jin also joined. Suo Lang arranged for Ge Sang to work at Ping Cuo's shop, allowing her to earn tuition while learning Mandarin. Faced with the cumbersome process of reissuing a certification, Suo Lang had to inform Ashley about the situation.
Eager to start her new job, Ge Sang couldn't wait to help out at the tea house, hoping to finish early to share the good news with Jiu Mei. In the equestrian team, Coach Luo was quite dissatisfied with the team's performance. Even though Jiu Mei remained his standout student, he insisted on becoming a physical education teacher.
Team members flocked to Jiu Mei for advice, and while he shared his experiences simply, it displeased Coach Luo. Seeing this, Ge Sang was furious and wanted to stand up for her brother, but fortunately, Jiu Mei and Qu Zong intervened just in time to prevent a conflict.
