Episode 20 recap: Qiao Yanru Confronts Her Past
In Episode 20, Za Xi hurried to the intensive care unit. Upon hearing that Peng Yang's condition had improved and he had been moved to a regular ward, he was so elated he nearly jumped for joy and rushed over. When he saw Peng Yang awake, the first thing he exclaimed was “Brother Za Xi!” followed by repeated thanks for Za Xi's care during his illness.
Za Xi smiled and pulled out a small bird model he had made by hand, presenting it to Peng Yang as encouragement to never lose hope. This gesture solidified a deep friendship between the two.
Back in the break room, Za Xi’s face radiated with uncontainable joy. At that moment, Dr. Yin Wei approached him, recognizing the fulfillment Za Xi felt as a doctor. He shared his insights: while the medical profession often faces the disappointment of being unable to save every patient, the joy and satisfaction of healing others far outweighs those moments.

Meanwhile, noticing that Qiao Yanru had yet to come for her follow-up, Yin Wei grew concerned and contacted Ashley, hoping to visit her at home. He believed that in a relaxed family environment, Qiao Yanru might be more receptive to medical advice. Ashley readily agreed and arranged the visit.
Upon returning home, Za Xi was performing a Tibetan play while wearing a blue mask, causing his father, Tu Deng, to worry that he might abandon his medical dreams for a life of theater. However, Za Xi firmly expressed his commitment to being a good doctor and asked his father to keep the blue mask as a memento. Tu Deng felt reassured, believing that the mask, symbolizing a warrior, would bless Za Xi on his medical journey.
Yin Wei's arrival disrupted the household's tranquility as he once again urged Qiao Yanru to consider surgery, outlining the treatment plan in detail. Yet, Qiao Yanru remained steadfast in her decision to use traditional Tibetan medicine, refusing endoscopic surgery. Just as the atmosphere grew tense, Yin Wei caught sight of a group photo on the wall, which struck him with an indescribable shock, prompting him to leave hurriedly.
Back in his office, Yin Wei stared at the long-kept relics and spent a sleepless night in contemplation. After much reflection, he decided to visit Qiao Yanru’s family again to reveal a ten-year-old secret. He recounted how he had once faced danger during a mountain climbing trip and was saved by Luosang, who sacrificed his life in the process. This guilt had driven Yin Wei to become a doctor and come to Tibet, hoping to repay Luosang's kindness.
Faced with Yin Wei's confession and apology, Qiao Yanru found it hard to accept and asked him to leave. Alone in Luosang’s room, she sat from day to night, wrestling with her emotions. Ashley and her father waited outside, fully aware of Yin Wei's dedication and sincerity.
Ashley encouraged her mother to let go of the past; otherwise, her brother’s spirit would never find peace. Ultimately, with her daughter’s encouragement, Qiao Yanru decided to release her burdens and agreed to seek treatment at the hospital. Yin Wei had already arranged for his senior brother to perform the surgery, but Qiao Yanru insisted that he be the one to do it. She hoped to climb Mount Qizi again after the surgery, fulfilling her and Luosang’s unfinished dream.
