Episode 6 recap: Suo Lang Sells Produce to Make Ends Meet

In Episode 6, as Suo Lang leaves for the day, he notices that the storage room has been cleaned out, leading him to suspect that it’s related to his goods. He returns to his room to call his previous client, Mr. Liu, and humbly pleads for a bit more money, not wanting to cause any trouble for anyone.

Suo Lang goes to see his older sister, Qu Zong, to apologize for the storage situation, but she reassures him that they’re family, and it’s not a problem at all. While Qu Zong is cooking in the kitchen, she brings up their father’s condition. Just then, their father, Tu Deng, comes in dressed to go out. Upon seeing Suo Lang, he subtly invites him to come home for dinner. At the dinner table, Tu Deng advises Suo Lang not to focus solely on starting his own business. Although he still struggles to accept Suo Lang’s decision to abandon a civil service career, his tone is less harsh than before.

Since the passing of Gong Bu Dan Zeng, Tu Deng has been reflecting on many things, worrying that Tibetan opera might one day disappear completely and no one would be left to carry it on. Suo Lang feels the weight of this concern and suggests recording Tibetan opera performances so everyone can enjoy them. Za Xi, who is very passionate about Tibetan opera, has been rehearsing with a theater group in hopes of becoming a successor, and he even plans to quit his job, which shocks Suo Lang.

Suo Lang worries that Za Xi’s decision will only anger their father more. He hopes his brother understands the sacrifices their family has made for his medical education. Za Xi considers delaying his resignation and asks Suo Lang to keep his rehearsals a secret. In a desperate move, Suo Lang sells produce at a loss, falsely claiming to others that he secured a high price, swallowing all his frustrations.

As he looks around the now-empty space, Suo Lang reminisces about the passion and determination they had when they first started their business together. Reluctantly, he locks up the small storage room, holding onto their business license, and leaves. Ashley plans to collaborate with Mr. Liu, who promises that if she can get him on the supplier list for the Good Life Network, he will quickly gather 200 Gangba sheep.

Moreover, Mr. Liu reveals that there are chili peppers and honey in the warehouse, but he doesn’t understand the black spots on the peppers. This realization makes Ashley aware of their differences, prompting her to reconsider the partnership. Later, Ashley seeks out Suo Lang and, while at the warehouse, runs into Xu Shaojie, whom she confides in about the situation.

Xu Shaojie understands how hard things are for Suo Lang and agrees to help Ashley convince him. Meanwhile, Suo Lang divides the money among Sang Jie and Ma Mu Ha, giving each of them 15,000 yuan from a total of 30,000 yuan, leaving himself with nothing. During this time, Ma Mu Ha has been working at the butcher shop, and Uncle Ma is unhappy about his son running around with Suo Lang. Especially after seeing that they invested over 30,000 yuan but only got back 15,000, he mocks Suo Lang for dreaming and not being practical.

Feeling hurt by Uncle Ma’s criticism, Suo Lang tries to support Sang Jie, who has decided to withdraw but is persuaded to stay by Suo Lang. Ge Sang’s brother, Jiu Mei, an exceptional equestrian, has traveled to Lhasa, eager to reunite with him. Jiu Mei feels a mix of helplessness and relief upon seeing his sister safe, agreeing to let her stay in Lhasa for a while longer.

Ashley visits her friend Ping Cuo’s bar, expressing that while she has adapted to life in the mainland, she has never forgotten Sara. While talking, she unexpectedly runs into Suo Lang, and they quickly start teasing each other about their flaws, like old friends.

After much thought, Sang Jie ultimately decides to follow his parents’ wishes and take the civil service exam. Suo Lang, unable to convince him otherwise, personally sees him off, feeling emotional, which Ashley notices. Back at the Gaji Courtyard, Suo Lang appears to have boundless energy as he helps Qu Zong wash noodles.

Meanwhile, Jiu Mei takes his sister to a restaurant and asks about Ge Sang’s future plans, to which she replies that she wants to pursue her dreams. Tu Deng, noticing that the weather has turned colder, secretly delivers a blanket to Suo Lang’s room but discovers Za Xi’s resignation letter, which makes him furious.
