Episode 25 recap: Lao Chen Helps Su Zhi Publish Again

In Episode 25, the workshop director is very reluctant to let Su Zhi go, but the factory manager insists on transferring her to the union’s publicity department. This new department is just getting started and urgently needs someone like Su Zhi who can write. Despite his reluctance, the workshop director has no choice but to agree.

Once at the union, Su Zhi is assigned to a team led by Xiao Tang, who even provides her with a desk. Xiao Tang gives her the task of exploring the factory for news stories and doing some reading. However, Su Zhi feels a bit uncomfortable with this easy workload since she’s used to being busy in the workshop.

After Su Zhi leaves, the workshop director finds a female apprentice for Zou Jie, hoping to nurture another talented individual. Although Zou Jie doesn’t outright refuse, he feels mixed emotions, sensing that the new apprentice is a bit lacking.

That evening, Su Zhi chats with Zou Jie about their recent experiences. Zou Jie shakes his head, saying his new apprentice isn’t very bright and struggles to learn anything. Hearing this, Su Zhi feels a bit smug, believing her own intelligence is undeniable. After Zou Jie goes to bed, Su Zhi studies late into the night, thinking about how to improve herself.

The next day, Su Zhi shows her written article to Xiao Tang. While Xiao Tang gives her some compliments on the surface, he secretly takes the article to the chairman, subtly ridiculing Su Zhi’s abilities. Feeling wronged, Su Zhi goes to Lao Chen to vent her frustrations. Lao Chen, upon hearing her plight, treats her to noodles to celebrate and encourages her to do her best. Su Zhi explains that she’s only on temporary assignment but is hopeful about the future, especially since writing could help her secure a permanent position. She shows her article to Lao Chen, who, while not saying much, is stirred by it and thinks about it all night.

Lao Chen reaches out to his old colleague Chen Hua, and the two friends greet each other warmly. Lao Chen tells Chen Hua that he has changed his name to Chen Qiao and shares his fascinating experiences from the past years. Chen Hua is amazed, feeling that Lao Chen’s life is more exciting than a novel. Lao Chen asks for Chen Hua’s help, hoping to find a way forward for both himself and Su Zhi.

Meanwhile, Zou Jie’s new apprentice continuously pesters him about his relationship with Su Zhi, showing little interest in learning welding, which frustrates Zou Jie.

Unexpectedly, Su Zhi’s article gets published, earning high praise from the union chairman. Although Xiao Tang is unhappy, he has no choice but to accept it. Feeling down about the situation, Su Zhi confides in Zou Jie, who reassures her that Xiao Tang is just jealous. The factory manager and director are thrilled and propose to nominate Su Zhi as an outstanding employee, even discussing the possibility of her joining the Communist Party.

Chairman Zuo shares this good news with Su Zhi. Although she doesn’t want to replace Hu Gan Shi, she is excited about the idea of joining the Party, though she feels she isn’t qualified yet. Chairman Zuo encourages her, saying that as long as she explains her family background, the organization will investigate. Su Zhi is so excited that she can’t sleep at night and tells Zou Jie she wants to go home to ask her mother about her father; she has already submitted her application to join the Party.

Zou Jie, busy with work, can’t accompany her but reminds Su Zhi to communicate patiently with her mother. Filled with hope, Su Zhi sets off on her journey home, dreaming of a bright future.
