Episode 6 recap: Xian and Her Mother Argue Again

In Episode 6, Cong angrily confronts Xian with a newspaper, seeking an explanation. Xian claims she was drunk and that Meng Yu Nong only helped her. Cong is clearly skeptical and accuses Xian of not trusting her. Xian chides Cong for believing tabloid gossip over her. Yao, upon seeing the newspaper, also gets upset and questions Meng Yu Nong's intentions. However, he denies any romantic feelings for Xian, dismissing it as mere tabloid nonsense.

While making chicken soup, Hui notices cracks in the clay pot, causing her to worry about bad omens. Cong arrives home and offers to help with the cooking, while Xian's skills impress Hui. Cong reassures Hui about the pot, saying wear and tear is natural.

Meng Yu Nong asks Xian to find him, but he’s not in his office, so she goes to his home instead. He has prepared a contract for her, giving her the choice to stay or leave, but he hopes she will join him for a meal. Meng Yu Nong believes that replacing Director Sun was his best decision, and he assures Xian that the new director will deliver great work, leading her to success.

Xian recalls promising her mother that this would be her last film, and now she’s unsure about signing. Yet, Meng Yu Nong’s words lift her spirits, and she ends up drinking too much. After waiting for a long time without Xian's return, Cong heads to the film set to search for her, only to find it has already wrapped up. Meanwhile, Xian is drunk at Meng Yu Nong's home, insisting she wants to go back, but he insists she stay, arguing that returning inebriated would only anger her mother.

Initially, Meng Yu Nong considers taking advantage of Xian's unconscious state, but he stops himself, covering her with a blanket and lying down on the couch instead. The next morning, Xian wakes up, realizing she didn’t return home and hurries back. Meng Yu Nong drives her, but as soon as they open the door, Hui slaps Xian. Meng Yu Nong tries to leave, but Hui stops him, pleading with him to let Xian go. She warns him that if he dares to touch Xian, she will kill him.

Once inside, Hui pushes Xian down and scolds her for staying out all night, ruining her reputation. Xian retaliates, accusing her mother of living for appearances, insisting that she wants to continue acting. In a fit of anger, Hui grabs scissors, threatening to harm herself if Xian doesn’t give up her dreams. During their struggle, Hui accidentally cuts her wrist, momentarily ending the chaos.

Xian felt heartbroken seeing her mother's injured wrist. She explained that her desire to pursue acting was just a way to explore, and she never intended to leave her mother. Hui didn’t blame Xian; instead, she calmly handed her a glass of milk. When Cong came looking for Xian, Hui lied, saying Xian had returned the night before and was just chatting with friends, which made her late. She added that Xian was still asleep, so Cong went to work.

Hui went upstairs to check on Xian, feeling reassured by her daughter’s peaceful sleep; it was only in these moments that Xian seemed to be the most obedient. As night fell, Xian woke from her deep slumber to find her hands and feet bound. She called out for her mother, but although Hui came to see her, she showed no intention of untieing her.

Xian remained tied up in the room, no matter how much she struggled upstairs. Hui refused to set her free and even force-fed her. Filled with hatred in her eyes, Xian eventually tearfully begged her mother to release her, but Hui remained unyielding, accusing her daughter of not understanding a mother's heart.

Later that evening, Xian accidentally discovered a pair of scissors on the floor. Seizing the moment while her mother wasn’t watching, she used the scissors to cut the ropes binding her. She tore the bedsheet to tie it and jumped out of the window, heading straight for Cong's place. Upon seeing Cong, Xian hugged him tightly, tears streaming down her face. She shared her terrifying experiences over the past two days, expressing that she felt trapped at home, like it was a prison. Cong reassured her that Hui loved her, albeit in the wrong way, and suggested that Xian must have misunderstood her mother.

At that moment, Hui realized Xian was missing and rushed to look for her. Cong hid Xian on the balcony and lied, saying she wasn’t there. Hui quickly searched everywhere for her. Cong went to work, allowing Xian to rest at his place. When he returned, Xian was still asleep. He prepared food for her and asked about her plans, hoping to ease Hui’s worries.

He mentioned that he had asked Wang Peng to inform Hui, and she would be coming to pick Xian up soon. Upon hearing this, Xian immediately got up to leave, but Cong quickly blocked her path and tried to persuade her to stay.
