Episode 15 recap: Lu Xing Yan and Shen Xing Ruo Investigate Huang Bing's Medication
In Episode 15, Lu Xing Yan and Shen Xing Ruo uncover a crucial lead: Huang Bing has been secretly taking medication for myocarditis. They suspect he has deliberately concealed his condition, relying on medication sent from a clinic to manage his health, but his condition has worsened despite this.
Shen Xing Ruo devises a plan. She pretends to be a delivery person and calls the clinic, claiming a package was lost and she needs compensation, hoping to glean information about its contents. However, the clinic staff, flustered, incorrectly mention it contained bullets before abruptly hanging up, and they become unreachable afterward. With this lead going nowhere, Shen Xing Ruo decides to find direct evidence to prove Huang Bing is taking medication.
Although everyone knows Huang Bing likes to drink traditional Chinese medicine from a thermos, they can't directly prove it’s for his myocarditis. So, Lu Xing Yan and Shen Xing Ruo decide to visit Changqing Village and investigate the clinic themselves. Medical records are solid evidence, and the doctor can serve as a witness, allowing Shen Xing Ruo to obtain crucial evidence.
However, upon arriving in the village, they sense something is off. The villagers seem to have been warned in advance and are tight-lipped about the clinic, even falsely claiming it has moved. To make matters worse, Huang Bing's family has caught wind of their investigation and is trying to chase them away. Lu Xing Yan, frustrated, almost confronts them, but Shen Xing Ruo stops him, knowing that a public altercation would reflect poorly on the show.
Just then, a child's ball hits Lu Xing Yan. Shen Xing Ruo quickly comes up with an idea: she instructs Lu Xing Yan to pretend he’s injured so that the kids will take them to the clinic to see Dr. Wang. The naive children readily agree without thinking twice. When they arrive at the clinic, Dr. Wang realizes Lu Xing Yan is fine and understands their intentions are not innocent.
As the situation grows tense, Da Huang storms in with a group to confront Lu Xing Yan. At that moment, Aunt Wang rushes out, mistaking Lu Xing Yan for Wang Shen Zhi and fiercely protecting him. Seeing this, Da Huang's group hesitates, and Dr. Wang seizes the opportunity to assure them he will keep their visit confidential, prompting Da Huang and his crew to leave.
Aunt Wang, a bit confused, mistakes Shen Xing Ruo for Xiu Fang and insists on showing her the wedding supplies she has prepared for Wang Shen Zhi and Xiu Fang. It turns out that Aunt Wang and Wang Shen Zhi were young lovers, but when he went to the front lines, her family forbade the marriage, fearing he wouldn’t return. Before he left, Aunt Wang gifted him a hand-stitched handkerchief, promising to wait for him. However, he vanished, and the villagers believed he had died, forcing Aunt Wang to marry someone else. Years later, when Wang Shen Zhi returned, they found each other again, but the world had changed.
Now, Aunt Wang suffers from Alzheimer’s and has lost her husband, leaving her alone. Relatives eventually locate Wang Shen Zhi to reunite them. Yet, Aunt Wang has always harbored a regret: they never had a wedding.
Meanwhile, Qin Qin visits the hospital to discuss compensation with Huang Bing and his family. She accidentally catches a strong scent of traditional Chinese medicine coming from Huang Bing's room, particularly from the large thermos by the bedside. When she inquires, Huang Bing's wife dismissively claims it's just a tonic. Suspicion grows in Qin Qin’s mind; this tonic might not be as simple as it seems.
