Episode 16 recap: The Real Culprit Behind the Plot
In this episode, Huo Jianqun betrays Zhuo Haotian and collaborates with Zhuo Shiqi. Zhuo Shiqi promises to support him until he can take control of the Wangzhuo Group, in exchange for Huo Jianqun’s share of a subsidiary. Suddenly, Yu Manyue receives a notification from Huo Jianqun about photos being leaked from her computer. Although he intercepts them in time, Zhuo Haotian is still furious and orders Yu Manyue to pack her things and leave.
Yu Manyue attempts to explain herself to Zhuo Haotian, but Huo Jianqun stops her. Later, Yu Manyue learns from Ji Wei that the photos were actually leaked from Yongshi's computer. After her dismissal, Yongshi gets promoted, indicating that the entire incident was orchestrated by Yongshi. Manyue is puzzled about who set Yongshi up for this.
Zhuo Shiqi suspects it was Huo Jianqun, but that’s not the case. The mastermind behind Yongshi is Zhuo Huiyun, who inadvertently discovered that Zhuo Shirong is Zhuo Haotian’s Achilles' heel. She manipulates Yongshi into getting a journalist to write an article, suggesting that it was Yu Manyue who orchestrated everything.
When Zhuo Haotian sees the article, he becomes enraged and takes his anger out on Yu Manyue, leading to her dismissal. Zhuo Huiyun then promotes Yongshi to replace her. Yu Xichen learns about her sister's firing and looks for an excuse to see her. Their older sister, Yu Manxing, agrees to let her invite Yu Manyue to their aunt's house.
During this meeting, Manyue and Zhuo Baizhong discover that Yu Manxing also owns a pair of bow-tie high heels. She claims they are just a regular version, but recalls that when she first wore them, she saw Zhuo Huiyun wearing the same limited edition pair. Manyue connects these clues, suspecting that Zhuo Haotian has another granddaughter. The size 36 heels purchased by Fan Yuling were likely intended for someone else, and Manyue had previously heard another woman’s voice at the hotel where Fan Yuling was staying.
However, since she has now been fired by Zhuo Haotian, her only option to continue her investigation is to seek help from Cheng Feng, who has been waiting for her to ask for assistance. Cheng Feng, familiar with Zhuo Shiqi, knows some family secrets. He reveals that Fan Yuling’s baby did not actually die, confirming that Zhuo Haotian indeed has two granddaughters.
Now, with Zhuo Haotian suffering from leukemia and urgently needing Fan Yuling’s daughter’s bone marrow for surgery, Fan Yuling uses this situation to return and negotiate with Zhuo Haotian. Both sides now believe they can outmaneuver each other.
Yu Manyue's attempt to talk to Yongshi fails, but Cheng Feng sends her Fan Yuling's location. Instead of acting impulsively, Manyue places a small surveillance device outside the room's door. When she sees Fan Yuling leave to go upstairs for a massage, another girl emerges from the room, prompting Manyue to take immediate action. The girl's name is Meibaobao, and her intelligence is comparable to that of a three-year-old. She gets into a conflict with other children at the playground, and Manyue steps in to resolve it.
To gain Fan Yuling's trust, Manyue helps find a lost white rabbit, and Cheng Feng also arrives at the hotel lobby. After receiving Manyue's message, he joins her at the playground to search for the rabbit. The rabbit is eventually found, and with Cheng Feng vouching that Manyue is not associated with Zhuo Haotian, Fan Yuling finally agrees to talk to Yu Manyue.
Seeing Meibaobao’s low intelligence, Manyue concludes that she couldn’t be the one who drugged her. Fan Yuling mentions Aunt Shan, the Zhuo family’s maid, who could very well be the one who stole the high heels to lend to someone else.
Meanwhile, Zhuo Huiyun meets with Zheng Youdong and Wang Yizheng, instructing them to continue following Yu Manyue. She then uses the photos of Huo Jianqun meeting with Zhuo Shiqi to blackmail Huo Jianqun into doing her bidding. Zhuo Haotian records a video as promised but refuses to hand it over until after he enters the operating room.
To sabotage the surgery, Fan Yuling deliberately instructs the nurse to secretly give Meibaobao something to eat at night, knowing that even if the doctor is one of Zhuo Haotian’s people, they wouldn’t dare proceed with the operation. However, when Fan Yuling arrives at the hospital the next day, she discovers that the nurse has been tied up in the restroom, and Meibaobao is missing. Zhuo Huiyun receives a call and realizes that Meibaobao has not been delivered to the designated location by Zheng Youdong and Wang Yizheng. Shortly after, Zhuo Haotian calls, demanding to see her immediately.
