Episode 17 recap: The Fake Granddaughter Becomes the Acting Chairperson
In Episode 17, Zhuo Hao Tian has long suspected that Huo Jian Kun betrayed him and is collaborating with Zhuo Hui Yun. Zhuo Hui Yun even had people kidnap Mei Yun, but unbeknownst to them, everything is under Zhuo Hao Tian's control, and he also has Mei Yun in his grasp.Zhuo Hao Tian angrily tells Zhuo Hui Yun that she doesn't even deserve the Zhuo surname; she is nothing but a wild child. Years ago, Zhuo Hui Yun repeatedly sneaked into the Zhuo household with her adoptive mother, and after being caught multiple times, Zhuo Hao Tian had no choice but to fire her adoptive mother.
Unexpectedly, a reporter captures a girl in pajamas appearing at the Zhuo residence and relentlessly questions Zhuo Hao Tian about whether she is the child of Zhuo Shi Rong, who tragically passed away. Driven by her vanity, Zhuo Hui Yun rushes out to call Zhuo Hao Tian "grandpa," forcing him to publicly acknowledge her as Zhuo Shi Rong's illegitimate child.
Meanwhile, Mei Bao is missing, and Fan Yu Ling is frantic, eager to call the police, but Cheng Feng strongly advises against it. Zhuo Hao Tian wields significant power in Hong Kong, and alerting the authorities would only cause him to hide Mei Bao even more effectively. Yu Man Yue suggests she has a way to flush Zhuo Hao Tian out.
She proposes leaking information, prompting reporters to stake out major hospitals in Hong Kong, which would reveal Zhuo Hao Tian’s whereabouts. Soon, Man Yue receives news from Cheng Feng that Mei Bao has been returned to the hospital, indicating that Zhuo Hao Tian has completed the bone marrow transplant surgery. The Wang Zhuo Group is set to hold a press conference the next day.
To everyone's surprise, the person who appears at the press conference is Zhuo Hui Yun, who claims to be the acting chairperson of the Wang Zhuo Group, responsible for all of its operations. However, the truth is that Mei Bao never underwent surgery. Man Yue confronts Zhuo Hui Yun in front of the reporters, forcing her into a private conversation where Zhuo Hui Yun stubbornly denies being the one who drugged Man Yue all those years ago while wearing high heels.
Regardless of her denial, Man Yue is certain it was Zhuo Hui Yun. Even though Zhuo Hui Yun is now the acting chairperson, Man Yue is determined to take her revenge.
Zhuo Shi Qi was furious upon seeing the news about Zhuo Hui Yun being named the acting chairperson. Cheng Feng reminded him that Zhuo Hao Tian would rather take the Wang Zhuo Group to the grave than easily hand it over to a fake granddaughter.
Man Yue went to find Cheng Feng, understanding that the priority was to locate Zhuo Hao Tian. To prevent Zhuo Hui Yun from taking control of the Wang Zhuo Group, Zhuo Shi Qi called a board meeting, intending to vote against Zhuo Hui Yun. That day, Zhuo Hui Yun arrived alone but immediately connected Huo Jian Kun and Zhuo Hao Tian via video call.
In the video, Zhuo Hao Tian stated that letting Zhuo Hui Yun be the acting chairperson was his decision, and no one else had a say in it. Zhuo Hui Yun was extremely pleased, boasting that the position of chairperson belonged to her. Through Zhuo Hui Yun's dashcam, Cheng Feng discovered that she frequently visited a particular hospital. With the help of Zhu Bai Zhong and Cheng Feng, Man Yue successfully entered the hospital room to see Zhuo Hao Tian, only to find that he had suffered a stroke and could not speak. Shortly after, Zhuo Hui Yun brought people in and had Man Yue forcibly removed.
It turned out that on the day Zhuo Hao Tian and Zhuo Hui Yun had their falling out, Zhuo Hui Yun had pleaded in vain and, in her desperation, brought up Zhuo Hao Tian’s painful memories, causing him to become so agitated that he had a stroke. Huo Jian Kun informed Zhuo Hui Yun that Zhuo Hao Tian had written a will stored in a safe, likely leaving his estate in trust management, which meant that upon his death, Zhuo Hui Yun would inherit nothing.
The only way to change that would be to tear up the will before he died. Huo Jian Kun suggested waiting until Zhuo Hao Tian woke up to pressure him into revealing the safe's code. Just as Zhuo Hui Yun planned to have Dr. Li administer a nerve medication known as the "honesty drug" to Zhuo Hao Tian, Dr. Zeng secretly moved Zhuo Hao Tian elsewhere.
