Episode 4 recap: The Return of the Corrupt Officer
In Episode 4, a tragedy from eighteen years ago drastically alters the fate of the Yu Man Yue sisters. Officer Mo Zhen Qiang is assigned by Jiang Zhe Xian to handle the case of Jiang Ji Jun and Kuang Yong Yuan's violation of the Yu sisters. Initially, the intention is to seek justice through legal means, but Mo Zhen Qiang heartlessly abandons them in the wilderness.
Fortunately, the sisters survive against the odds, but Yu Man Yue is unjustly burdened with false accusations, which inadvertently implicates the Xu family and brings them much misfortune.
Mo Zhen Qiang privately confides in Kuang Wen Hai that he has been observing Yu Man Yue for several days. He notes her constant care for her sick sister and brother, leaving her little time or energy for anything else. Despite this, Kuang Wen Hai remains uneasy about Yu Man Yue's proximity to Jiang Ji Jun, fearing a repeat of past events.
One night, while out for a run, Yu Man Yue's phone is stolen. Luckily, her neighbor, Mo Jia Lang, helps her recover it. Yu Man Yue encourages him not to pursue the thief, and afterward, she takes him to a convenience store to tend to his injuries, where they run into her friend Cheng Feng. During their conversation, Mo Jia Lang invites Yu Man Yue to his graduation ceremony, which she politely accepts. In reality, Mo Jia Lang plays a crucial role in Yu Man Yue's revenge plans, as the son of Mo Zhen Qiang and a future key player at the law firm.
At dinner with his son, Mo Zhen Qiang mentions a running friend, unknowingly referring to Yu Man Yue, but he senses his son's affection for her. However, on graduation day, Yu Man Yue does not attend; her focus is entirely on investigating Mo Zhen Qiang and others involved in the past.
Yu Man Yue suspects that Mo Zhen Qiang hides an important safe, possibly containing keys he values greatly, and decides to team up with Zhu Bai Zhong to uncover the truth. Meanwhile, Kuang Wen Hai is changing the public relations firm for the Jiang family, and Yu Man Yue seizes the opportunity to deliver information. When she finds that Zhuo Hui Yun can't reach Jiang Ji Jun, she suggests trying the top suite at the Wansheng Hotel.
Zhu Bai Zhong assists Jiang Ji Jun in preparing for an important meeting by helping him with a suit. However, after the meeting, Jiang Ji Jun coldly dismisses Zhuo Hui Yun, leaving her feeling abandoned. Yu Man Yue arrives just in time to support the distraught Zhuo Hui Yun, who, out of pride, does not reveal the truth of what happened.
Jiang Ji Jun and Kuang Yong Yuan each return home to await further instructions. Jiang Ji Jun dismisses his father's suggestion of retirement, vowing to implement sweeping reforms after taking over the company. Jiang Zhe Xian considers assigning the redevelopment project of the old district to Jiang Ji Jun as a test for inheriting the company.
Zhuo Hui Yun has long harbored feelings for Jiang Ji Jun, dreaming of using a child to bind his heart to hers, unaware that he views her as merely a means to secure his inheritance. Eighteen years ago, Zhuo Hui Yun experienced the pain of unrequited love, facing ostracism from classmates and rejection from suitors. Jiang Ji Jun's indifference and disdain still haunt her.
Whenever Zhuo Hui Yun seeks solace in solitude, Kuang Yong Yuan appears just in time to offer comfort. Meanwhile, Yu Man Yue's quest for revenge intensifies as she uses technology to send anonymous emails to Mo Jia Lang, further entangling her web of vengeance.
In this complex web of grudges and entanglements, everyone’s fate is intricately connected, and the revelation of truth and justice seems to be just around the corner.
