Episode 5 recap: Corrupt Ex-Police Officer Dies in Accident
In Episode 5, Cheng Feng and Su Bi De head downstairs and happen to notice a scattering of empty wine bottles in front of Yu Man Yue's house, prompting Cheng Feng to mumble a few comments. As they pass a convenience store, Cheng Feng inadvertently lingers over the wine section's sign, which leads Su Bi De to catch him in the act, teasing him about wanting a tipsy night.
Meanwhile, Mo Jia Lang graduates and starts his first day as a trainee inspector. He receives a puzzling email that raises his suspicions. On the other side, Mo Zhen Qiang goes for a relaxing massage but returns to find that the location of his house key has changed. Alarmed, he rushes inside to check if his valuables are safe. After confirming everything is intact, he quickly moves his important items to a more secure hiding place, unknowingly falling right into Zhu Bai Zhong's trap. Zhu Bai Zhong is exploiting Mo Zhen Qiang's paranoia, enticing him to bring out the treasures from his safe for an easy grab.
Just as Zhu Bai Zhong is about to succeed, Mo Jia Lang's unexpected arrival disrupts his plan, forcing Zhu Bai Zhong to retreat in frustration. Meanwhile, Mo Zhen Qiang, horrified to discover that his bag has been slashed, breathes a sigh of relief when he realizes nothing is missing. He hurriedly returns home and locks his hard drive with multiple locks for extra security.
Later, Zhu Bai Zhong apologizes to Yu Man Yue. While she is understandably angry, she knows this isn't the time to dwell on it; her main concern is that Mo Zhen Qiang is now likely suspicious of them. Fortunately, they can still rely on their honest ally, Mo Jia Lang.
On another front, Yu Xi Chen suddenly goes missing, causing Yu Man Yue to panic. After receiving a call from her aunt, she frantically searches for her sister, eventually finding her at their old house, happily taking photos. It turns out Yu Xi Chen was drawn back by the nice weather and nostalgia, and she lost contact because her phone ran out of battery.
After finding her sister, Yu Man Yue finally breathes a sigh of relief, but Zhu Bai Zhong remains anxious and follows her over. Yu Xi Chen privately speculates that her sister's switch from art to media may be driven by a hidden desire for revenge. She also notices that her sister often has secret conversations with Zhu Bai Zhong. Although she has some inkling of the truth, Yu Man Yue chooses to remain silent to protect her sister.
However, when Mo Zhen Qiang comes home and catches his son Mo Jia Lang staring at his hard drive, a family storm erupts. Mo Zhen Qiang's anger and disappointment are palpable, while Mo Jia Lang is heartbroken, as the father he looked up to is revealed to have been involved in dark activities like tampering with testimonies, arson, and creating wrongful convictions. Mo Jia Lang urges his father to turn himself in, and while Mo Zhen Qiang verbally agrees, he quietly disappears the next day.
Mo Jia Lang pursues him in his car but, in a panic, veers onto the road and tragically gets into an accident, first hitting a car and then an SUV, resulting in his immediate death. This incident fuels Yu Man Yue's desire for revenge, prompting her to mark a heavy red X over Mo Zhen Qiang's photo.
Meanwhile, Jiang Ji Jun exudes confidence in the business world, directly naming the bidding project for Dong Sen Rong, disregarding the high price. Kuang Yong Yuan finds himself in a dilemma, threatened by Rong Ge, and too afraid to confide in his father, Kuang Wen Hai. Instead, he searches for a way to unlock Mo Zhen Qiang's phone on his own.
On the other side, Zhuo Hao Tian faces tough questions from reporters at a ceremony and chooses to evade them. Luckily, his sister Zhuo Hui Yun comes to his rescue with flowers, preventing a bigger scandal. Zhuo Shi Qi launches a friendly offensive against Jiang Ji Jun, inviting him to a party on a boat in an attempt to win him over.
Kuang Wen Hai privately advises Jiang Zhe Xian to be wary of Zhuo Hao Tian and Zhuo Shi Qi, cautioning him to choose sides carefully. At the party, Jiang Ji Jun enjoys a lively conversation with Dong Sen Rong's friends, showing great interest in their insights on making money in the transportation industry.
