Episode 3 recap: Luo Yi Ning Helps Lin Hai Ru Vent Her Anger
In Episode 3, Luo Shen Yuan is preoccupied with clearing his teacher's name. He secretly sets up a small tavern where he can meet with classmates for important discussions. One day, he arrives late and finds an unexpected situation unfolding.Luo Yi Ning cleverly lures Luo Yi Lian out and makes her believe that she’s going to confront the young master from the Jiang family about breaking off their engagement. In a panic, Luo Yi Lian calls her father to the tavern, hoping to embarrass Luo Yi Ning. However, when Luo Yi Lian's father arrives, he finds his daughter discussing marriage with the young master, who insists that he will only marry Luo Yi Lian!
Seeing this, Luo Yi Ning's father becomes furious and storms into the room. Luo Yi Lian, terrified by her father's arrival, struggles to explain herself. The young master, on the other hand, directly appeals to Luo Yi Ning’s father to support their marriage. Luo Yi Lian, in tears, adamantly refuses.
Feeling sorry for his daughter, Luo Yi Ning's father decides on the spot to cancel the engagement. Back at home, Luo Yi Ning feels uneasy. She realizes that her father is biased; he can easily be swayed by Luo Yi Lian's tears. Luo Yi Ning silently vows to be more cautious in her actions moving forward.
After reflecting on the situation, she discovers that a servant had secretly gone to the Jiang family and exaggerated some stories from her childhood, which led to the uproar about the Jiang family wanting to take a Luo daughter as a concubine. The same servant had also aggravated her grandmother's illness. Upon investigation, Luo Yi Ning finds out that this servant is Mama Lu, and she asks Qing Qu to search Mama Lu's room for evidence.
Indeed, they find a heavy bag of silver, amounting to dozens of taels! How could a mere servant have so much money? With solid evidence in hand, Luo Yi Ning calls her father, the head matriarch, and the concubine together. Faced with the evidence, her father can no longer show favoritism. He punishes the concubine with a month of house arrest and hands over the family authority to the rightful wife, Lin Hai Ru.
For years, Lin Hai Ru, although the primary wife, had never been involved in family matters and often suffered bullying from the concubine. Now, she finally has a chance to assert herself. Luo Yi Ning advises Lin Hai Ru that now that she is in charge, new rules must be established. Lin Hai Ru immediately starts drafting new regulations, such as requiring concubines to perform morning and evening rituals, serve the matriarch, and handle household chores.
She personally hands the rulebook to the concubine, taking pleasure in seeing her face contort with anger. Lin Hai Ru grows increasingly fond of Luo Yi Ning and readily agrees when she hears that Luo Yi Ning wants to personally deliver the monthly allowance to Luo Shen Yuan.
When Luo Yi Ning visits Luo Shen Yuan with the allowance, she affectionately calls him "Third Brother," and they interact like real siblings. Luo Yi Ning knows that Luo Shen Yuan helped them greatly by uncovering Mama Lu's misdeeds, so she comes to express her gratitude.
Luo Shen Yuan is pleased as well, finally feeling treated as an equal. When one of his servants asks why he hasn’t mentioned borrowing a painting, Luo Shen Yuan smiles and shakes his head. He believes they don’t need to explicitly speak about it; when the time is right, they can quietly visit instead.
