Episode 11 recap: Duan Xianfeng's Request to Delay the Counterattack Rejected

In Episode 11, the U.S. military is rapidly setting up defensive lines and closing off the tunnels. This has led to a severe shortage of supplies for our soldiers in the tunnels, with even water becoming scarce. When General Qin Jiwei hears that basic supplies, like apples, have yet to arrive, he becomes extremely anxious and furious.

Seeing this, the chief of staff quickly tries to calm General Qin, noting that the current ammunition reserves might not be enough to win the counterattack on the 23rd. However, there's good news: a batch of "Katyusha" rocket launchers has reportedly crossed the river, which could help bolster our firepower.

Upon hearing this, General Qin's eyes light up. He thinks to himself that he has a long-standing relationship with Deputy Commander Hong from their days on the Long March, and he believes that in a critical moment, his old leader will surely lend a hand.

Without hesitation, he calls Deputy Commander Hong to request support for a "Katyusha" rocket artillery battalion. Seeing that other units aren't making major moves, Deputy Commander Hong readily agrees, saying they will arrive by noon at the latest.

Meanwhile, Fan Yuanbao notices the lack of medical supplies in the tunnels. To save his comrade Luo Wanxiang, he takes matters into his own hands and seeks permission from Hu Man Cang to participate in a night raid for medicine, but he is stopped.

In a rush, Fan Yuanbao sneaks into the UN forces' camp. When the U.S. military realizes something is amiss, they initiate a full-scale search. In a panic, Fan Yuanbao grabs a few medical kits and runs for it. Fortunately, he encounters some brothers from the Third Company along the way, which helps him escape with his life.

At the same time, Ding Xin and the others are in a meeting when Duan Xianfeng learns that Fan Yuanbao has gone out on his own. He immediately takes Shuang Xi and others to search for him. Upon spotting the U.S. forces, Duan Xianfeng decisively orders the throwing of grenades to draw fire and cover Fan Yuanbao's safe retreat.

On another front, Hu Man Cang holds a report written by Duan Xianfeng, which requests to delay the counterattack on the 23rd and hopes for joint support from the party members in the tunnels. However, some comrades don't understand this and feel it undermines morale. Hu Man Cang decides to put it to a vote, but the results are evenly split. In the end, Hu Man Cang steps forward to clearly express his support for Duan Xianfeng's decision.

Fan Yuanbao finally returned to the tunnel, only to be harshly reprimanded by Duan Xianfeng for acting on his own, which was deemed a serious violation of discipline. As a result, he was put under confinement.

Duan Xianfeng submitted both the telegram regarding Fan Yuanbao's punishment and the report requesting to delay the counterattack. However, there were differing opinions within the regiment, and Cui Jiangong had no choice but to escalate the matter to the military headquarters. General Qin Jiwei, on the other hand, praised Fan Yuanbao's courageous actions and awarded him a second-class merit. However, he firmly disagreed with Duan Xianfeng's report, taking a very strong stance against it.

At this time, Feng Baisheng also came to speak with Duan Xianfeng, criticizing him for submitting the report without consensus and emphasizing that the Eighth Company is a collective that should share responsibilities together. After that, he brought reinforcements for Duan Xianfeng, which touched him deeply.

Soon after, Duan Xianfeng assigned five new recruits to Shuang Xi, making him the squad leader. Fan Yuanbao felt a bit uneasy, thinking that his second-class merit should not be taken lightly, as he was no less capable than Shuang Xi. Nevertheless, for the greater good, Duan Xianfeng decided to lead Shuang Xi's seventh squad on a reconnaissance mission.

They discovered that the UN forces had built numerous bunkers and fortifications, but many were not marked on the map. Upon closer inspection, Shuang Xi noticed not only the visible bunkers but also concealed ones. Duan Xianfeng immediately gathered everyone and announced that they would launch a joint counterattack with the Fifth Company of the 135th Regiment tonight. The plan was to first secure Position One, then take Position Three, and finally move north to capture Position Eight, creating a pincer movement with the Fifth Company.

Curious, Shuang Xi asked Duan Xianfeng how he could identify the gaps on the map during the day. Duan Xianfeng explained that it was based on the distribution of U.S. firepower. If certain areas had insufficient firepower, then their fire coverage would have vulnerabilities.

With time running short, Duan Xianfeng strictly ordered everyone to wait until nightfall to take action, emphasizing the importance of safety.
