South Sea Tomb: A Highly Anticipated Addition to the Ghost Blows Out the Light Series

The sudden arrival of "South Sea Tomb" at Tencent, as another new addition to the Ghost Blows Out the Light series, has generated high expectations. The cast remains the same, with Pan Yue Ming, Zhang Yu Qi, and Jiang Chao portraying Hu Ba Yi, Shirley Yang (Xue Li), and Wang Pangzi, respectively. With the original team returning, it is evident that the production team has put in a lot of effort.

As anticipated, "South Sea Tomb" lived up to expectations, garnering a rating of 9.3 after just three episodes, securing the top spot on the trending list. However, despite initially expecting unanimous praise, the series unexpectedly received a lot of negative reviews with similar criticisms. Viewers found the dialogue awkward, casting choices inappropriate, and the duration of the episodes concerning. The story begins with Professor Chen and the group having a meal, where a few key points are revealed: the official confirmation of a romantic relationship between Hu Ba Yi and Xue Li, the emphasis on the importance of the Qin Emperor's Bone Mirror, and the need for Hu Ba Yi and others to help find the mirror.

The opening was promising, setting expectations for the direction of the series and establishing its theme of archaeological exploration. However, a particular line instantly shattered the positive impression, making it incredibly awkward. As the plot progressed, the main characters arrived at Coral Temple Island, a crucial location in their search for the Qin Emperor's Bone Mirror. There, they encountered Ming Shu, who warmly welcomed everyone and introduced two individuals assisting with the excavation. But when it came to Hu Ba Yi's turn to speak, he unexpectedly said, "Ming Shu, during the previous Kunlun expedition, you brought your whole family along!"

As a character in a television drama, one should consider if such a line is appropriate. Instead of being humorous, it only amplifies the awkwardness. Unfortunately, this line repeats in the second episode, along with similar situations.

The second episode mainly focuses on the preparations made by the main characters to enter the Coral Spiral. This involves finding a boat for sailing and a boatman. While searching for a boatman, Wang Pangzi sets his sights on an attractive woman, prompting Hu Ba Yi to remark, "You're already being lecherous in the second episode." Wang Pangzi retorts, "She didn't even appear in the first episode!"

One mistake could be forgiven, but a repeating pattern suggests that it was intentionally done by the production team. It's difficult to understand why they would find such dialogue humorous. This kind of conversation, breaking the fourth wall between the television drama and its characters, not only lacks humor but also creates discomfort. Additionally, the introduction of the character Gu Cai has sparked a negative reaction. Negative reviews abound, but it remains unclear what he has actually done.

However, in terms of appearance, he does have an ordinary look with dark skin and an average appearance. Yet, many people in the comments praise his handsome looks and good physique. It begs the question of whose sense of aesthetics is flawed. "South Sea Tomb," as a new addition to the Ghost Blows Out the Light series, has achieved good ratings since its arrival at Tencent. However, it also has several shortcomings, such as the number and duration of episodes, which leave viewers speechless. With only 16 episodes and each episode being approximately 20 minutes long, this kind of television drama seems more suitable for animation or short series formats.
