Burning Years: A Gritty Depiction of 1980s Underworld and the Consequences of a Life of Crime

The more you watch "Burning Years," the heavier your heart becomes. How should I put it? The plot is portrayed realistically, reflecting the true nature of society in the 1980s. It's not about preaching grand principles; it's about choosing the right path in life. Because when you live a life of crime, there's a debt to be paid. And it's not just your own debt; it affects your family and friends as well. Xu Wei Biao (played by Han Dong Jun) has always aspired to be the leader, and he has been pursuing that goal relentlessly.

His greatest virtue is loyalty. Even in a fight, he can become friends with Pang Lao Han (played by Sang Ping). Even the arrogant Diao Yu (played by Wu Xiao Liang) admires him. The most remarkable thing is that Xu Wei Biao's loyalty saved Zhong Yu Nan (played by Zhang You Hao), which led to their group's grand display of power.

However, it is Xu Wei Biao's loyalty that not only harmed himself but also his family and friends, ultimately leading to the consequences of a life of crime. Due to a personal grudge, he indirectly let Huang Si take the blame for him, causing Lin Hong Mei (played by Ma Li) to lose her child and her status as a mother.

If Wang Lei was pulled into the criminal organization by Xu Wei Biao, it was still his own choice, and his actions were driven by his own desires. If he hadn't been so reckless, Wang Mu (played by Wang Ji) wouldn't have been killed by Ling Qian (played by Dong Bo Rui), resulting in the destruction of his family.

Zhong Yu Nan, who went offline in the 11th episode, although he was destined to be targeted by the same gang as Zhong Er Ye (played by Yuan Yuan), initially only faced the threat of kidnapping. However, because he got to know Xu Wei Biao, Wang Lei, and others, he got caught up in the chaos, which accelerated his demise.

His downfall even implicated his father, Zhong Er Ye, and led to the destruction of his sister, Zhong Pan Nan (played by Kong Yan). He led his subordinates with brutality and no regard for family ties, which is why Ling Qian, who was formidable, was eventually killed by the useless Hui Er (played by Li Chang Yi).

Qian Hai (played by Han Fei Xing), the loan shark/smuggler, also brought down his only relative, Qian Jun (played by Wu Yi Jiang). And Wang Lei's father (played by Chang Kai Ning), whether it was for escape or for the sake of brotherhood, abandoned Wang Lei and his mother, which was simply wrong.

Among the five prominent figures, Xu Wei Biao, Wang Lei, Zhang Peng, Zhong Yu Nan, and Lin Zhi Hua, only Lin Zhi Hua seems to be on a slightly better path, as he walks the righteous path. However, due to the entanglement with the other four, he himself gets kidnapped and nearly killed, his sister loses her ability to bear children, and his nephew dies before even being born. Regardless of the era, it is essential to be a good person and choose the right path. In the face of unlawful activities, promptly report them to the authorities because in the end, a life of crime will always catch up with you.
