Exploring the Novel 'As Long As We Are Together' and Its Unique Portrayal of Marital Life

In the novel "As Long As We Are Together," Ye Yi Fan, as a husband, eagerly tries to initiate intimate moments with his wife, He Jia Ru, when she has to be away for a long time. However, he is ultimately defeated by her menstrual cycle. Whether you are a husband or a wife, whether you are a young newlywed couple or an elderly couple who have been married for many years, you may resonate with Ye Yi Fan's impatience or feel disgusted by the explicit portrayal of marital intimacy.

People often use the saying "in their thirties, women are like wolves, in their forties, women are like tigers" to describe the initiative of women in marital life, sometimes exaggerating the needs that primarily arise from physiological reasons. However, in the face of modern medical knowledge and research, the intense desire for a marital relationship like Ye Yi Fan's, where the husband desires more than the wife, is actually unreasonable and goes against physiological reality. From the perspective of male and female physiological development, perhaps the ideal and peak age for a union is around 20 for males and around 30 for females.

This is why I deliberately mentioned the novel "As Long As We Are Together" in the title and opening content. As a urban drama, family drama, ethical drama, and even a fashion drama, "As Long As We Are Together" stands out from many previous works of the same genre due to its distinctiveness and characteristics.

Whether it's the trivialities of daily life or the dominance of a CEO in the workplace, we haven't seen a portrayal of marital life as raw and explicit as in "As Long As We Are Together" for a long time. As a family ethical drama, when you, in your fifties or sixties, encounter the implicit language used in "As Long As We Are Together," you may be unable to directly face or explain the metaphors behind the lines due to psychological or cultural reasons.

Ironically, it is precisely these seemingly vulgar remarks from Ye Yi Fan that provide the greatest affirmation and praise for life and art. Compared to those self-righteous preaching and stereotypes, perhaps Ye Yi Fan's insatiable physical desires are the true essence of appreciating both high and popular culture. When he or she breaks a crab leg right in front of you, or opens a bottle of champagne in your ear, everything changes in an instant.

The seemingly faint sound of a crab leg breaking, the seemingly unnoticed sound of champagne being opened, for him or her, they are like thunderstorms in silence, like terrifying waves on a calm sea surface. This may not be an accurate depiction of an ordinary family, but it may very well reflect the reality within commonplace family conflicts. Regardless of whether "As Long As We Are Together" has a happy ending, at least Ye Yi Fan's performance at present is highly satisfying.

That's all for now regarding the interpretation of "As Long As We Are Together." Stay tuned for more exciting insights in the next installment.
