The Hope: A Campus Drama Inspired by the Japanese TV Series 'Dragon Sakura'

"The Hope" is an adaptation of the Japanese drama series "Dragon Sakura." It tells the story of Lei Ming, a gold medal trainer, and Sang Xia, a psychological counselor, who form Class 11 of the third year of high school. Together, they lead the students, who are ranked last, with the goal of getting into Qingbei University. They overcome challenges and reignite their dreams in this campus drama.

This Japanese drama was a popular series in the 80s and 90s. The plot revolves around a school that is on the verge of being acquired due to poor management. The lawyer responsible for the acquisition becomes the homeroom teacher and makes the decision to guide the worst-performing students to get into the best school. Before the class starts, the homeroom teacher tackles the crucial issues of each student one by one. Just when it seems like the class might not form, everyone comes together at the last moment. Through arduous studying and multiple rounds of exams, they fall short of their promised admission rate but gain recognition for the school thanks to successful cases.

"The Days of Chasing Light" is a guide to achieving economic independence: getting married is not a fresh start but rather a second cycle (for those trapped in the quagmire of life). Cheng Yu Shan is a mathematical genius girl, but her parents favor her underachieving brother. They would rather spend 100,000 on his school fees than 380 on her uniform.

Her stepfather, who walks with a limp, secretly installs a hidden camera in their room, capturing footage day and night. He even produces DVDs of the recordings. Yu Shan wants to expose this hypocritical man, but she thinks about her mother's weakness over the years. She is her mother's only support, and even if she reveals the truth, she would likely receive the advice of "forgive him, he won't do it again in the future."

Despite the suffocating living environment, she has considered escaping. However, with her limited life experience and empty pockets, finding a boyfriend seems to be the fastest and safest option. Like a swaying dandelion, the constraints of relying on others force us to mature. Li Ran is an entrepreneurial youth with a business-minded brain. He excels at repairing mobile phones, tablets, and gaming consoles, either making money or preparing to make money.

Her place of residence is taken back, and the rented shop is demolished. She relies on her grandmother's kindness to solve her housing problem, but she finds herself constantly having to please others. Compared to the top student, she feels insignificant. Bian Xiao Xiao has a people-pleasing personality. In order to maintain friendships, she waits in line for an hour to buy an egg pancake for her classmates.

Living with her aunt and uncle, she listens to her aunt complaining about her father's incompetence and constantly assigning her chores. Although she is sensitive and affected by it, she puts on a brave face and takes on the household responsibilities. Refusing to accept the victim-blaming mentality: being a girl is never your fault. Life may be in shambles, but luckily, there are people who help you patch it up.

I really love this drama with such positive values. Even though it's a TV series, I'm glad that Yu Shan has someone who protects her. I hope every girl has a good mentor and friend by her side.
