Disappointing Spy Drama 'Unshakable Faith': A Letdown in Storytelling and Execution

This year's spy dramas have left people speechless. "无间" (Unyielding), "薄冰" (Thin Ice), and "潜行者" (Infiltrators) all came with great anticipation but turned out to be much ado about nothing. As the year draws to a close, the Central Broadcasting Network (CBN) makes another attempt with the premiere of the counterintelligence drama "Unshakable Faith." The initial viewership soared to 2.8, giving hope for a pleasant surprise. However, it turns out to be a major disappointment.

The character development, plot, and makeup are far from resembling a spy drama but rather resemble an idol drama disguised as one. Even with veteran actors like Ding Yongdai and Kong Lin, the incompetence of the screenwriter cannot be salvaged. Particularly frustrating are the following points. The male lead has a slicked-back hairstyle and a powdered face, while Peng Xiaoran appears with exquisite makeup. I was dumbfounded. Did they fall into a flour bin? Where did the unforgettable Xiao Feng go?

The internet-famous face of the female spy is already enough to break the immersion, but the female lead's face is even more artificial. The two of them imitate "Mission: Impossible" with a semblance of seriousness, causing me to burst into laughter. The male lead is taken away by the female spy, and miraculously, the female lead finds Room 606 as if she has X-ray vision. They encounter each other in a narrow corridor, with the male lead in imminent danger. Surprisingly, the female lead has no backup plan. If it weren't for the male lead's quick thinking, I wouldn't know how it would end.

Passing through a checkpoint, a group of villains watches as the two enter the mainland, only deciding to pursue them when the female spy arrives. It's simply too far-fetched. In the fourth episode, the Bureau of Security suspects that explosives have been planted in the expert building, so the female lead takes the blueprint to find the male lead. After looking at it for a while, the male lead actually says, "I followed the blueprint, but I have no idea where they might have placed it."

Please tell me, you're not an engineer from the expert building, so how did you figure it out? Such lines are an insult to one's intelligence. After watching four episodes, "Unshakable Faith" can only be described as a huge disappointment. Based on the current storyline, it's highly likely that "Snow Wolf" is portrayed by Ding Yongdai as Bai Minghan, and the male lead, Ji Danyang, will engage in a love triangle with Pang Hongmei and Bai Hui.

It's already 2023, and it's disheartening to see spy dramas taking a step backward. I think it's time for me to call it a night and go to sleep.
