The Outrageous Adaptation of 'Doupo Cangqiong' in Live-Action: A Closer Look at the Modified Plot

When it comes to the most absurd live-action adaptations of intellectual properties (IP), one cannot overlook Tencent's "Doupo Cangqiong" (Battle Through the Heavens). From the TV drama with martial energy-transformed horses that evoked both laughter and disbelief to the recent film "Awakening" with its fantastical yet unbearable storyline and poorly portrayed characters, viewers had no choice but to exclaim loudly, "Leizi, I spoke too loudly before."

Despite the disappointing reception and widespread criticism of these two productions, there are still audacious individuals who dare to remake "Doupo Cangqiong" into a live-action series. Currently, the series has reached its fourteenth episode, and the plot has reached an all-time low. Let's delve into some of the heavily modified plotlines!

1. Xiao Zhan Carrying a Lunch Box? As a crucial character who survives until the grand finale in the original story, as Xiao Yan's father for whom Xiao Yan dedicates almost half of the plot to rescue, and as the peak expert who ascends from a fighting emperor to a fighting saint, it is astonishing to see Xiao Zhan carrying a lunch box in the live-action adaptation! In the original story, after Xiao Yan fulfills his three-year agreement, the Xiao family is attacked by Yun Ling, and Xiao Zhan is captured by the Soul Hall to attend the Fighting Emperor training class.

In other words, Xiao Zhan never had any scenes in Yunlan Sect in the original story and was directly taken to the Soul Hall. However, in the live-action series, Xiao Zhan is captured by Yunlan Sect and imprisoned in a cage. When Xiao Yan storms into Yunlan Sect and sees his father imprisoned, he erupts in anger and fights to break the cage and rescue his father, leading to a major battle within Yunlan Sect.

However, Xiao Yan ultimately fails to save his father. After exchanging a few words with Xiao Yan, Xiao Zhan tearfully bids farewell and carries the lunch box.

3. The Whereabouts of Xiao Yan's Beloved Unknown. Xiao Yan's beloved is none other than Yunlan Sect's Master Yun Yun, a character with a significant fan following within "Doupo Cangqiong." However, in this live-action adaptation, Yun Yun is completely written out of the storyline. In other words, all scenes related to Yun Yun have been removed. How can the audience accept this? It should be noted that Yun Yun is Xiao Yan's first love, and he has always held some special feelings for her. Dissolving Yunlan Sect was also a compromise Xiao Yan made for Yun Yun's sake. Later, in Zhongzhou, Xiao Yan and Yun Yun had many interactions. Yet now, without any explanation, everything related to Yun Yun has been deleted. Have the creators considered the audience's sentiments?
