The name Shen Yao is widely known at Minglong School. Since the beginning of high school, Shen Yao has consistently ranked first in the entire grade, receiving scholarships every year. He is an exemplary role model for his classmates and the favorite student of his teachers. Despite appearing enviable and admired by others, Shen Yao is unhappy in this environment.

In his own words, he would rather be born into an ordinary family. At least then, he would have a complete home. When Shen Yao was little, his parents were busy with work and often left him at home. His father is a businessman who frequently socializes with various people. Shen's father feels that Shen's mother only cares about mundane matters and cannot understand or comprehend his career.

As a result, Shen's father often stays away from home and seeks entertainment with other women. Shen's mother is unaware of this. When Shen Yao sees his father with other women, it deeply affects him, especially his father's laughter, which is something he never witnesses at home. In protest, Shen's mother sits at home, refusing to let Shen Yao and his brother eat, waiting for their father to return.

Seeing his mother cry while repeatedly calling his father on the phone is an indescribable heartbreak for Shen Yao. He has often wished that he was not born into this family. Later, Shen Yao learns that his father's fondness for him is not based on his achievements but rather, there is no fondness at all.

Shen's mother, on the other hand, only writes "good" on Shen Yao's report card without any other praise. The coldness displayed by Shen's father and mother repeatedly disappoints him.
