The Casting of Ya Fei in 'Battle Through the Heaven' Stays True to the Original: Review
In the original work, Ya Fei is one of the early female characters to appear. Although her role is not extensive, Ya Fei's character design is extremely captivating in the animated version, which piques the curiosity of the audience.
In terms of appearance alone, Zhong Qi is absolutely suitable for the role of Ya Fei. Particularly from the side, she bears a striking resemblance to the animated version of Ya Fei. In 2014, Zhong Qi participated in the Miss Chinese International Pageant in the Americas and ultimately won the championship. Later, Zhong Qi was selected by designers to become a runway model for Vancouver Fashion Week.
This alone proves that Zhong Qi not only has a high level of attractiveness but also possesses a good figure. Therefore, casting her as Ya Fei is definitely a wise choice. However, the portrayal of Ya Fei by Zhong Qi lacks some of the enchanting and seductive qualities. It is worth noting that in the original work, although Ya Fei lacks talent and has low cultivation, she possesses a special sense of perception when it comes to discerning people and things.
Furthermore, Ya Fei is adept at utilizing her beauty, and being enchanting and seductive is her normal state. From this perspective alone, Zhong Qi's performance falls short, or rather, hasn't fully unleashed that aspect. Especially in terms of expressions, Zhong Qi's portrayal of Ya Fei hardly displays any smiles, which somewhat conflicts with Ya Fei's character.
Overall, the casting in "Battle Through the Heaven" remains faithful to the original work. Adapting such a popular IP into a TV drama is never an easy task, and achieving complete fidelity to the characters from the original work is even more impossible. Considering the casting aspect, the level of dedication from the production team in "Battle Through the Heaven" is evident.
